Job Requirements

The Chubb Science Center (CSC) is a multi-disciplinary group within the Enterprise Risk Management function tasked with bringing state-of-the-art science to catastrophe underwriting and aggregation management. The CSC focuses on developing Chubb's view of risk for both modeled and non-modeled catastrophe perils globally, including integrating climate change research. Roles within the CSC provide an excellent opportunity to apply a scientific understanding of natural hazards to catastrophe solutions and their use in underwriting, pricing, and aggregation management.

Chubb is seeking a Director, Catastrophe Research and Analytics to join the CSC. The interested individual will join a dynamic team composed of people with diverse backgrounds. This position will be responsible for leading the catastrophe claims data analytics and non-modeled risk assessment initiatives. We are seeking an analytical individual with strong research experience in natural catastrophe risk assessment. As part of the CSC, you will play an integral role in delivering risk management solutions to various internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities include:

• Provide thought leadership and lead claims data analytics/platform assessment initiatives
• Develop a framework to extract actionable insights from catastrophe claims on an ongoing basis. Use learnings to develop best practices and improve effectiveness of risk assessment capabilities by incorporating actual experience in the catastrophe modeling framework
• Investigate, evaluate, and advise on new solutions for non-modeled risk. Develop approaches and metrics to monitor non-modeled exposures and aggregations
• Support other team members on ongoing model evaluation projects as needed
• Support underwriting and actuarial by providing technical expertise on catastrophe models
• Communicate and present model validation and change management results to business units and other stakeholders

Work Experience

We are seeking an analytical individual. Ideal candidates for the role will have the following experience and technical skills:

• MS/Ph.D. degree in meteorology, earth sciences, engineering, statistics, or a related discipline
• Advanced knowledge of probability and statistics
• Advanced knowledge of CAT models from RMS and/or AIR
• A proven ability to critically evaluate products and provide feedback in a fast-paced environment
• 5-7 years of experience in the development or validation of natural catastrophe risk assessment tools
• Hands-on experience working with large unstructured claims datasets
• Strong computer skills including advanced knowledge of R, Excel, SQL, and GIS tools is required
• Excellent analytical, communication and organization skills
