ENVIRONMENTAL SPECIALIST II (Remediation Geologist) - P0403

Salary Range - $50,811 - $96,448

What you will be doing: The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality, Tidewater Regional Office, seeks a qualified individual to respond to releases of petroleum from storage tank and spill incidents. Conduct groundwater investigations in response to petroleum releases. Provide technical expertise on groundwater/leaking tank characterization by reviewing technical reports and providing appropriate comments. Complete regional reimbursement processing for leaking tanks. Manage the electronic file-of-record and maintain the agency database for case events. Collaborate with tank compliance and enforcement staff as needed to advance petroleum release investigations and corrective action. Evaluate solid waste facility groundwater monitoring by reviewing technical reports and providing appropriate comments as requested.

Qualifications:

Knowledge and skills in hydrogeology, geology, groundwater/leaking tank remediation, chemistry, scientific data evaluation and groundwater modeling.
Knowledge of federal/state/local laws and regulations governing petroleum releases and solid waste.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge and experience in project management, time management and PC database operations.
Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

Graduation from a college or university with major course work in hydrogeology, geology or environmental science or the equivalent in knowledge, skills and experience.
