Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings - carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

**Summary** :

The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist will develop, implement and administer Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures in collaboration with the Facilities Manager at the Milpitas (and Sunnyvale) locations. The role will develop and facilitate implementation of safety and health strategies to minimize risk and to ensure the safety and health of employees. Maintain compliance with federal, state, corporate, local and environment health and safety regulations. Responsible for conducting audits and recommending corrective action where environment health and safety hazards exist. Participate in EH&S design review of new equipment and process installations.

**Responsibilities** :

1. Develop a safety minded culture with a mind-set focused on accident prevention.

2. Conduct regular safety and health risk assessments and resulting mitigation activities that will identify, evaluate and control unsafe conditions and acts.

3. Coordinate various EHS Corporate initiatives/projects. Implement best practices to achieve safety compliance goals.

4. Develops and maintains expertise in state/federal OSHA regulations and standards for environmental, health and safety and disseminates this information as needed.

5. Assist management and supervision with incident investigations and corrective actions.

6. Recommend changes in policies, procedures, work environment and equipment to prevent accidents and illnesses.

7. Lead and document accident/incident investigations to determine root cause, prevention and corrective measures.

8. Provide consultation regarding environmental education and training, support and guidance to facility personnel to maintain a work environment consistent with company policy and regulatory requirements.

9. Understand impact of manufacturing process and equipment in regard to environmental impacts and compliance.

10. Develop safe handling procedures.

11. Develop and conduct safety training.

12. Maintain close working relationships with Corporate EHS

**Knowledge and Skills:**

1. Must have working knowledge of applicable regulations within the California Safety and Environmental Regulatory Framework

2. Experience and proficiency in writing safety assessments, plans and procedures.

3. Ability to keep abreast of regulatory changes and develop new or modify existing Facilities & EH&S programs to maintain compliance.

**Minimum Education and Experience** :

Must have at least a Bachelor's Degree in EHS or related field

3-5 years of relevant experience in a safety and health related field in a manufacturing environment

Knowledge of safety and health regulations (CAL OSHA and Federal OSHA and EPA)

**Physical Demands** :

Light work. This position involves sitting, standing and/or walking. Position requires the ability to frequently exert up to 10 pounds of force to move objects and occasionally exert up to 20 pounds of force to move objects.
