Wildlife Technician
EcoResource Solutions, Inc. (ERS) is a professional environmental consulting firm that provides aquatic and terrestrial ecological services nationwide. ERS services range from high level scientific consulting, wetland investigation and restoration, NEPA and Section 7 ESA, and fish and wildlife management to localized pond and lake management. We serve a diverse clientele, primarily throughout the Rocky Mountain and Great Plains regions.
We are seeking a biological field and lab technician to perform a variety of job tasks. We are looking for highly motivated and independent person who is interested in working in the natural resource management field.
Position Title: *Fish & Wildlife Technician*
Classification: Full time, non-exempt; hourly
Compensation: Wage based on education and experience
Overview: The technician will work under the direct supervision of the companys project manager and biologists. Work assignments will vary depending upon different project types, but will primarily include assisting with natural resource surveys, processing water chemistry and biological samples in the lab, and completing regional pond and lake management tasks. Other responsibilities include:
Collection of GIS field data;
Completion of lake bathymetry surveys;
Completion of project data entry;
Maintenance of companys sampling equipment, vehicles and facilities;
Installation and maintenance of lake aeration systems and other equipment;
Application of aquatic algaecides and herbicides (under supervision of licensed supervisor);
Qualifications: We prefer that the successful candidate have a minimum of a M.S. degree in fishery and/or wildlife sciences, natural resource management, or related field. However, experienced candidates with B.S. degrees will be considered. This position requires the ability to work independently (often under adverse weather conditions and in remote areas) and travel out of state for periods up to two weeks. Must demonstrate an adequate knowledge of aquatic and terrestrial ecology and possess strong verbal and written communication skills. Experience and knowledge of ArcGis, ArcMap and TerraSync are required. This position requires out of state travel for up to 2 weeks per month during summer months.
A valid drivers license with good record is required, and required at all times during employment with ERS.
Knowledge and experience in the following areas are essential:
Data processing and compilation;
Fish and wildlife assessment methodologies and management techniques;
Pond and lake management practices and general water quality;
Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel;
Proficiency with operation of boats, 4x4 vehicles, ATVs, and trailer towing;
Ability to perform physical requirements of the position, including heavy lifting, boating, hiking, digging, etc.;
Proficient time management skills to complete multiple tasks under tight deadlines; and
Knowledge and practice of outdoor safety (e.g., must complete a Colorado boat safety course upon hire).
A valid Colorado driver's license with clean record is required.
