OVERVIEW:
The Research Scientist will be responsible for the development of cell lines, strains, technology, and processes for production of microbiological therapeutics, and scale-up/process optimization/control strategy development and for technology transfer to and from pilot plant/manufacturing sites. The Research Scientist is also responsible for leading/supporting organization initiatives, mentoring, bringing in new capabilities/technologies and providing internal/external influence.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead the design, execution, interpretation and archival of experiments leading to the improvement of microbiological production processesUse mathematical methods and computer tools to model and explore experimental systemsParticipate in and/or lead cross-functional process development teams, and effectively collaborate with other groups in Process Development, TS/MS, and ManufacturingSupport tech transfer of processes to and from manufacturing sitesAuthorship of laboratory notebooks, technical reports, and regulatory documentsKeep abreast of relevant scientific literature/new technologies/capabilities and regulatory initiatives/requirements. Lead implementation, as appropriateEnsure work and team activities are aligned with all relevant Quality, Regulatory, and HSE requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:
Ph.D in Chemical/Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Biology, or a related field; or BS with NLT 10 years' experienceGeneral knowledge of cell culture, molecular biology, and fermentation with an emphasis on recombinant protein and / or vaccine manufacturing process developmentGeneral knowledge and understanding of issues associated with scaling of upstream processes, and use of statistics for experimental design and data analysisDemonstrated Problem solving and decision-making skillsDemonstrated scientific and people leadership skillsEffective oral and written communication skillsMust be able to work productively in an interdisciplinary team environmentWill work with Risk Group Two organisms (bacterial, viral, MCC)IND1
