Overview:
PURPOSE: Responsible for the daily management of food microbiology and chemical laboratory activities, lab equipment, inventory and personnel and will also be responsible for the oversight of all microbiological and chemical sampling, testing, monitoring and data analysis of food processing plant locations. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Maintain ISO 17025 accreditation. Oversee laboratory quality manual, equipment maintenance programs and records. Support sampling and testing for multiple facilities. Provide oversight for laboratory personnel across three shift operation. Develop and ensure compliance with standard operating procedures. Analyze data for trends and opportunities for improvement or further study. Conduct equipment capability studies on existing equipment and potential new equipment. Lead validation studies on equipment or processes. Distribute analysis reports and COA's to internal and external customers. Maintain vendor portals as required. Consult on environmental monitoring programs. Provide guidance in the investigation of microbiological and sanitation issues. Manage internal audit program. Oversee testing conducted at external laboratories. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Ability to operate a computer and other office productivity equipment. Ability to move in food processing facilities (sometimes through narrow passages, in wet areas, or on elevated platforms). Ability to inspect equipment and product. Ability to occasionally move about inside the office, food processing facilities and/or farming fields. Must be able to work in different temperatures (working temperatures as hot as 100° to 105° F and as cold as -20° F to 32° F). Must be able to work in a high noise area.

Additional Info:
JOB QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor of Science/Art degree in Microbiology, Food Science, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biological Sciences or related field is required. Must have experience working with laboratory technicians, providing trainings to lab personnel, conducting validation and verification experiments. Must be knowledgeable in food processing/sampling, food pathogen testing methods, equipment and laboratory operations preferably in an ISO certified lab. This person must be trainable in personal safety, product safety and job duties. Remote work not available for this position.Occasional travel will be required as needed. Must be able to speak and read English. Bilingual, English/Spanish, a plus. Must have a valid driver's license with a clean DMV driving record. Must pass pre-placement drug/alcohol screen.
