The Director, Gift Planning is responsible for identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of prospects for both current and deferred gifts to WSU. Such gifts include bequest and beneficiary designations, life-income gifts such as charitable gift annuities and charitable remainder trusts, interests in real property, and complex outright gifts involving securities, cash, and other assets. Other duties include but are not limited to face-to-face contact to assist donors and their professional advisors in completing complex gift arrangements; filing complete and timely relationship reports; attending and staffing board and committee meetings as assigned; inviting new and potential planned gift donors to consider including WSU in their estate plans, documenting such plans and becoming WSU Legacy Associate members. Serves as a resource for and represents all WSU constituencies regarding education and training about planned and complex gifts.

Required Qualifications:
  • A Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of major gift, planned giving, real estate law, land management or estate planning experience or any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Must have a general knowledge of outright and deferred charitable gift options.
  • In addition to the classification requirement, four (4) additional years of experience in planned or major gifts or transferable skills. A combined total of seven (7) years of experience are required.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Relevant advanced degree or certification, higher education development experience, gift planning, and legal or tax experience
