About the PositionVHB's Wethersfield, CT office has a need for an experienced Senior Environmental Scientist/Project Manager to join our growing Site Investigation & Remediation practice! ResponsibilitiesManages, plans, develops, organizes, and implements environmental investigation and remediation projectsExplores subject area, defines scope, selects areas for investigation, and develops novel conceptsOversees the planning strategy and approves project proposals and contractsDetermines client requirements and develops plans, specifications, drawings, instructions, cost estimates, reports, final bid packages, and related documentsEngages and leads technical proposal teams or a major component of a proposal teamLeads research teams to solve complex problemsPerforms project reviews and quality control audits to measure the quality level of the project deliverables to industry standard specifications and zoning/regulatory requirementsInvestigates any quality problems that lead to project changes and modifies project plans as neededEnsures each project complies with federal, state, and local environmental regulationsEstablishes and monitors budgets to assess profitabilityActs as technical liaison within and outside VHB with responsibility to act independently regarding technical matters on environmental engineering projectsConsults with construction personnel concerning design constructabilityRepresents VHB at meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish needs and discuss design/permitting issuesResponsible for client relationships, visibility, and business developmentProvides direction and guidance to technical team members and reviews their work for technical accuracyMentors and may supervise junior team members from one or more disciplinesSkills and Attributes Strong understanding of State regulatory requirements, including CTDEEP Remediation Standard Regulations Ability to make quick decisions regarding regulatory applicability and respond to clients in an efficient mannerBusiness development expertise and an established network of potential clientsExcellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skillsWillingness to mentor junior staff and work in a team-based atmosphereMotivated and able to problem-solve Strong knowledge of site assessment/characterization, data analysis, remediation techniques, and risk assessment is required Experience working on contaminated sites throughout Connecticut including interaction with local, State, and Federal regulators (CTDEEP, CTDPH, and EPA)Familiarity working in urban environments, managing soil and groundwater on construction sites, and performing ASTM Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments Familiarity with state regulatory programs (Property Transfer, Voluntary Remediation, and Brownfields).Experience developing and implementing Remedial Action Plans, EPA Quality Assurance Project Plans, and PCB Cleanup Plans.QualificationsB.S. in a Natural Science related field (Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Natural Resources) 11-15 years of environmental remediation experience, depending on level of education Master's Degree preferred (a Master's degree may be substituted for 2 years of experience)OSHA 40 hr. HAZWOPER certification and annual refresher certifications requiredLicensed Environmental Professional preferredAbout UsWE ARE VHB!
