Posting Number 046605 Position Title Research Assistant (Healthy Homes and Environment Projects) Number of Vacancies 1 School/College/Division/Institutes/Centers 32 - Provost & VP Academic Affairs Primary Department H6614-Center Urban Studies Working Conditions Essential Functions (Job Duties) Assist in implementing several key research and intervention projects regarding Healthy Homes in Detroit. Assist in the day-to-day implementation including: Conducting Home Safety Assessments or equivalent procedures for these projects. Helping with the training of parents in the DLEAD Cleaning Project. Recruiting parents for the DLEAD Cleaning Project. Helping to recruit for and organize community engagement events. Participating in door-to-door recruitment and Green Infrastructure projects for Climate READY. Mapping data for the Climate READY and other projects. Helping to prepare training and recruitment materials for the Climate READY project. Helping develop data collection and survey instruments and the construction and maintenance of databases. Conducting statistical analyses, and assisting in drafting reports or other deliverable documents, and prepare and deliver presentations. Collaborating with others regarding data management, and in the planning and implementation of data quality assurance plans. Preparing regular updates to Center Director and Managing Director. Unique Duties Qualifications A Masters in the social sciences (including political science, public administration, demography, education, geography, psychology, public health, social work, sociology, survey methodology, statistics, and/or urban studies), especially coursework in survey research and statistical analyses is required. Demonstrated skills in GIS mapping is required. Desire to work in the community on intervention research projects (including conducting site visits and healthy homes assessments), especially Detroit, is required. Ability to drive and having access to a vehicle is required. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities A strong working knowledge of social science research methods and experience in managing primary data collection procedures and practicalities of implementation required. Skilled at designing and implementing da ta collection tools, including survey instruments to conduct primary data collection. Supervision skills and experience, including effective recruitment strategies and performance assessment. A capacity to collaborate with other staff, scholars, community leaders and residents to engage them in the work of the projects. Willingness to review community engagement literature. Working experience with ArcGIS and other mapping software. Effectively utilize software necessary to convert and process data (e.g. SPSS, Excel, Access, Dbase). Ability to contribute to several projects simultaneously, prioritize and plan work activities while meeting respective deadlines. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Flexible and adaptable style; a professional and resourceful style; the ability to work independently and as a team player, to take initiative, and to manage multiple tasks and projects at a time. Strong diplomatic skills to present, and to answer questions and concerns effectively. Strong written and oral communication skills.
