This role is in our Macedon, NY facility. Must be able to travel between both our Macedon and Williamson NY facilties.

WHAT WE NEED

We are looking for an Manager Environmental & Sustainability to support our environmental health and sustainability initiatives. The primary focus of these initiatives will include tracking, measuring, and communicating environmental performance, leveraging performance results to target key areas of improvement and work cross-functionally to identify short- and long-term and implements plans to meet our environmental commitments. The successful individual will help develop goals and strategies in alignment with industry benchmarks and business goals resulting in reduction of GHGs, reduction in Food Waste and the diversion of Food Waste from landfill.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
  • Support environmental compliance effort including but not limited to air emissions, universal and hazardous waste management, wastewater, storm water, chemical management, and permitting processes
  • Manage and execute multi-site responsibilities to comply with air emissions, storm-water, waste, wastewater and other environmental related laws, regulations and permits, which includes required Federal, State and local reporting such as USEPA, EPCRA/SARA, Form R, and Tier II, state mandated permit reporting, and other required reporting as needed
  • Utilize risk assessments and compliance evaluations, to lead continuous improvement initiatives to minimize environmental aspects and impacts and communicate and implement best practices.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business partners to support their success in environmental compliance, performance and sustainability initiatives
  • Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization
  • Identify, measure, and analyze the carbon footprint, water and land use, and other metrics (such as wildlife habitat loss) of all our current and future products through life cycle assessments and help identify ingredients and practices that can further enhance our sustainability goals.
  • Work with our supply chain and quality department to ensure environmental stewardship of all our suppliers.
    • Research and lead the initiative on sustainable packaging solutions for our products. Establish reasonable goals for the reduction or elimination of plastic for our products. Explore new packaging solutions that are compostable or recyclable. Develop a reasonable transition plan to new, environmentally friendly packaging in conjunction with cross-functional teams.
    • Assess and implement sustainability measures within the company and at the plant to reduce waste, water, and resources.
    • Assist with and prepare annual reports such as Carbon Disclosure Project, annual sustainability reporting, in addition to preparing and brainstorming on internal and external (customer) scorecards as needed.
    • Assess energy and water use and make recommendations for reducing.
    • Create and oversee training programs to change internal practices and behaviors among all employees.
    • Develop a program for eliminating waste
    • Conduct on-site inspections and support sampling and testing of soil and nearby water sources.
    • Collect and test samples of soil and nearby water sources
    • Review permit applications
    • Prepare reports and legal documents
    • Investigate employee complaints regarding exposure to hazardous material
    • Ensure clients are complying with all local, regional, state, and federal environmental regulations


WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemistry, or a sustainability-related field.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience in developing, maintaining, and/or managing sustainability-based initiatives related to food or farming, preferably in a consumer-packaged-goods company
  • Substantial knowledge, experience, and understanding of corporate social responsibility and environmental sustainability are required.
  • Experience with environmental compliance, environmental programs, spill procedures, air quality, and/or water quality
  • Experience in interpreting and implementing state and federal hazardous waste regulations
  • Knowledgeable about current environmental regulations and potential regulatory changes (SWPPP, SPEDES, Cooling Tower reporting, Air Permitting, DEC reporting/inspections)
  • Develop and maintain relationships with business partners to support their success in environmental compliance, performance, and sustainability initiatives
  • Drive an environmentally responsible culture within the organization
  • Excellent communicator - speaks and writes clearly and to the point.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.


Required Education/Experience:

  • Experienced working in manufacturing
  • Knowledge and expertise in general maintenance methods, operating requirements, and safety precautions related to facilities management in a manufacturing environment.
  • Understand and comply with government regulations relating to OSHA, FDA, EPA and NEC. These regulations include those outlined in the Clean Air Act, the Clean Water Act, and the Toxic Substances Control Act, among others.
  • Knowledge of GHG accounting
  • Knowledge and experience in CDP and developing scorecards
  • CEM or other Green/Energy certification
  • Impeccable verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to work autonomously as a strong, independent, critical-thinker and decision-maker.
  • Ability to independently prioritize and juggle multiple matters at once.
  • A pro-active, high-energy attitude, geared towards achieving continuous improvement
  • Track record of excellence, ability to drive change and deliver results.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • All of the soft skills, culture-fit, computer programs, lifting requirements, etc.
  • Due to SQF regulations, all employees must be able to fluently read, write, and converse in the English language.
