22-23 UCA Environmental Education & Outreach Leader

Umpqua Watersheds, Inc. located in Roseburg, Oregon. Umpqua Watersheds, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non-profit environmental organization. We are "dedicated to the protection and restoration of the Umpqua basin and beyond through education, restoration, advocacy and ecologically sound stewardship." The primary goal of the Environmental Education and Outreach Leader is to expand our educational capacity in order to improve science literary and develop technical skills in natural resources for at-risk youth in Douglas County. The member will strengthen and expand our education programs including a forest stewardship curriculum, a wilderness education curriculum a weekly radio show called "Living Downstream", develop environmental education training workshops and the Home Explorer program. United Communities AmeriCorps (UCA) engages members in meaningful service to meet critical needs in SW Oregon. UCA projects improve access to community programs in project focus areas of Education, Economic Opportunity, Healthy Futures, and Environmental Stewardship. Members engage clients in their dedicated service project, and then use their experience to recruit, retain, and support community volunteers. Members serve full-time for 11 months, totaling 1,700 hours for the term of service. Our positions have benefits (education award, monthly stipend, training opportunities, etc). Member Duties : Teach existing curricula and education programs in partnering schools and organizations. Refine and update curricula, educational materials, and teaching tools in forest stewardship, environmental science, and natural resources Coordinate and produce Living Downstream Radio show for Umpqua Watersheds' KQUA radio station. Outreach to new schools and organizations for new educational partnerships. Attending and assist in facilitating monthly Education Committee Meetings Attending monthly Board of Directors Meetings to provide update on AmeriCorps activities and Programs Update UW website and FB pages with information on Education events and activities Maintain a bi-weekly Environmental Education Blog on UW website Assist in Volunteer recruitment, training and management as it relates to Education and fundraising initiatives Raise funds through donation requests and small grants to support the education programs.
