Job Summary
The Environmental Health & Safety (EH) Engineer will provide technical expertise to support the development, implementation, and maintenance of a safe working environment. The role will be focused on assisting the facility in ensuring that the technical operations are carried out in accordance with federal, state, and local regulatory requirements, as well as company EH policies and procedures. They will provide support to the Sr. Chemical Processing & Environmental Engineer in particular. They are a key member in the EHS team leading Hytek's safety programs. The EHS Engineer is a lead trainer, including developing and facilitating on the job training.

Responsibilities

Environmental/Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with appropriate governmental and legal regulations, policies and procedures.
Member of EHS team and key contributor in emergency planning/evacuation.
Ability to support chemical lab testing as needed.
Supporting chemical maintenance team to ensure compliance.
Assist auditors during various types of audits (quality, environmental, safety, etc.). Support follow up actions.
Identifying areas where housekeeping standards should be improved to ensure environmental health and safety needs are met.
Assist with hazardous waste profiling and environmental profiling as needed.
Work with others to assist in troubleshoot and information gathering regarding processing issues.
Train new employees on EHS standards and ensuring they understand basic compliance.
Supporting data gathering of industrial and finishing environments, such as airflow sampling for ventilation.
Work closely with Hytek's onsite lab and quality systems team in order to review and conduct a gap analysis of new specifications, procedures and forms.

Occupational Health and Safety Oversight

Responsible for safety programs including Health & Safety coordination, accident prevention program, hazardous communication training and all other OSHA/WISHA related safety programs.
Responsible trainer on various safety-related topics such as, HAZCOM, fit testing, Respirator use, including PPE evaluation and training. Coordinates first aid, first responder and fire prevention training.
Responsible for overseeing the recurring environmental monitoring including Air Sampling, and Noise Surveys or any other industrial hygienist (IH) monitoring. May partner with outside vendors as necessary.
Suggests, purchases, and maintains appropriate equipment for safety and testing.
Completes various reports including annual reports, Air Permits (NOC's), and annual emission reporting.
Maintains safety guideline documents/programs including the Hazard Communication program.
Supports Hytek's Accident Prevention Program by reviewing workplace accidents and injuries to develop prevention and corrective action strategies.
Coordinates annual employee health programs including audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, routine physicals, etc.
Implement ergonomics and job specific programs to decrease the number of incidents that could cause injury. Integrates sound ergonomic practices into educational programs and daily work of all employees. Coordinate with on-site partners for employee preventative health measures and to address early concerns of potential injury.
Oversee Hytek's Safety Committee and assists supervision in educating employees on practices, precautions and procedures established. Ensure elected chairperson and members participate in monthly meetings and activities.
Oversee administration of WISHA/OSHA record keeping. Report and document all WISHA accidents and lead/support investigation for corrective actions and future prevention.
Conduct monthly AED inspection and online reporting.
As part of the Right to Know HAZCOM program administrator to SDS online, quarterly backups.

Qualifications

Has the aptitude to learn complex chemical and finishing processes.
Demonstrates critical thinking for both simple and complex processing and environmental concerns.
Ability to develop training content for safety and chemical processing - not just in power point. And to facilitate and train others, through both classroom and on the job.
Is a servant leader. Brings humility and a willingness to help as needed.
Strong analytical skills and the ability to implement and design solutions meet deadlines and respond promptly to requests.
Ability to communicate with all levels of employees and management.
Demonstrated strong oral and written communication skills.

Education/Previous Experience Requirements

Work experience in the Electroplating/Finishing Industry desired.
Bachelor of Science in Chemistry or equivalent years in experience.
Industrial chemistry experience.
Knowledge of quality specifications, tools and equipment used at Hytek.
Experience working in a Lean environment preferred.
This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
Must be authorized to work in the U.S. An export license will be required to work in all areas of the facility for non-US persons.
Must be able to pass a criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening.

Essential Mental/Physical Demands
Sitting/standing/walking for long periods in an office and manufacturing environment. Ability to lift/carry up to 50 lbs. on a frequent basis. Occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, and fumes from metal finishing chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Due to the manufacturing environment, safety glasses and hearing protection may be necessary and/or required.
