General Description: The Tutor Coordinator manages the Tutoring Center and works with the Dean of Student Success to develop and implement a strategic vision for the unit that promotes best practices in academic support.

Duties and Tasks: Manages the operations of the campus Tutoring Center and its staff to include recruitment, training, and oversight of full-time, part-time, and student hire tutors and all associated tutoring activities. Monitors tutoring service provision using NOVA systems in coordination with Tutoring Supervisors at all campuses. Ensure that requests for tutoring assistance are responded to promptly and efficiently. Leads marketing and services as required for the campus Tutoring Center.

Oversee the development and implementation of tutoring initiatives that champion best learning support practices. Develop annual goals and assessment processes. Develop and manage the unit's annual budget.

This position may be required to work occasional evenings and weekends.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

Required KSAs: Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills; Strong computer literacy; Knowledge of adult learning styles; Ability to manage and supervise in a diverse learning environment; Ability to provide tutoring in a variety of formats; Ability to work independently and in teams to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in an academic field, education, student development, or a related field.
  • Experience in higher education instructional environments. Significant experience providing direct tutoring.
  • Some previous experience in a supervisory role.
  • Previous experience in budget development and management.
  • Previous experience working with diverse and special needs populations is required.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's Degree in education, curriculum, or related field of study or equivalent applicable experience or training. Significant experience teaching or providing direct tutoring. Extensive experience in supervisory capacity (including, hiring, training, and supervising staff). Experience in program development and project management. Experience developing and implementing instructional support workshops and programs. Experience teaching college level courses, particularly in core disciplines i.e., English, Math, or the sciences. Experience working in community college; higher education. Successful at grant- writing and outcome measures. Proficient using LMS and other educational technology.
