General Summary:

Responsible for performing analytical and microbiological testing of products, ingredients, food components, and environmental samples. Gather data and report findings.

Principal Accountabilities

* Performs microbiological and analytical testing of products, ingredients, food components, and environmental samples under the guidance of the supervisor. Ensures quality conformance to microbiological, analytical, and other specifications for all samples submitted, as required.
* Utilize the LIMS computer system for data storage of analytical micro results.
* Remains current on microbiological techniques including micro plating, Vidas testing, Gene-Up testing, and FDA BAM.
* Complies to the laboratory ISO 17025 standards.
* Follows up with supervision/management on all exceptions and corrective actions.
* Assists in continuous improvement and the implementation of efficient and effective changes to process, equipment, facility, and supplies.
* Maintain pertinent cultures and/or purity testing as needed under the direction of supervisor.
* Operate, maintain and troubleshoot all equipment and instrumentation associated with assigned assays and duties.
* Assist in 3rd party sample submissions, if needed.

Job Complexity

* This position is required to conduct microbial tests of food products and environmental samples using established Campbell's and Snyder's Lance protocols under the guidance of the supervisor.
* This position is required to follow established protocols for maintaining and testing stock cultures under the guidance and direction of the supervisor.

Job Specifications

* Bachelor's Degree in Food Safety, Microbiology, or equivalent; a minimum of 1 year of experience in a microbiology laboratory or equivalent combination of education and experience.
* This position requires the candidate to be capable of following directions and being fully responsible for work performed.
* This position requires proven skills at bench microbiology with good aseptic technique.
* This position requires the ability to understand and demonstrate broader food safety principles and practices.
* This position requires the ability to understand, apply, and communicate microbiology principles to lab management.
* This position requires the candidate to be computer literate with the ability to work in Microsoft Office efficiently and capable of utilizing complex analytical equipment.
* This position requires the candidate to be detail-oriented, well-organized with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* This position requires the ability to communicate effectively and work effectively, both individually and in team settings.
* This position requires great problem-solving skills.

Working Conditions

Candidate will work mainly in a laboratory setting, working with various chemicals and biological cultures that may be hazardous. Candidate will also be required to work with a computer on a daily basis for communication, research, and report writing.
