Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge Wildlife Education Internship The education internship program at TCWR is designed for post graduate students interested in education, outreach, and working with our team to end the exotic pet trade. Intern applicants must be college graduates with a degree in Education, Interpretation, Biology, Conservation, or related field. Experience with working with children in an educational setting will be considered. There are only 2 positions available at this time, and the duration of the internship is 6 months. If you are looking for a fulfilling position to give abused exotic animals a voice, you have come to the right place. The education intern will research, develop, and present educational programming to the public and school/special groups following the National Association of Interpretation (NAI) guidelines. Applicants must be self-motivated, with a high drive to spread awareness about all species at the Refuge and in the wild. The ability to work in a team environment or independently is important. Job Description Public Education-responsible for presenting programs each day to the general public/visitors and special group tours, along with giving guided tours. Special Programming-the education department is in charge of organizing programs for special animal holidays such as World Wildlife Day, Earth Day, Tiger Day etc. The intern will assist in planning and presenting programs on special holidays. Research-responsible for researching and developing programming according to National Association for Interpretation guidelines (Education Coordinator will cover guidelines during training) School Groups-assist with organizing/presenting during school groups both at the Refuge and off-site, including setup of promotional material Advanced Training-multiple opportunities throughout internship for furthering education during the 6-month internship Educational Writing-aid in writing education articles for the website, blog posts, and newsletter. Wayside Exhibits-assist in research and planning for wayside exhibits and educational signage at the Refuge. Child Camps-responsible for helping with all child activity days such as spring and summer camps and child fun days, including planning and presenting programs and activities. Special Events-assisting with organizing and planning special events as needed. Compensation Weekly cash stipend of $100 for living expenses. On-site housing provided which includes heat, air conditioning, utilities, full bath, kitchen, washer & dryer, satellite TV, Wi-Fi, and free long distance.
