Our Cell and Protein Sciences (CPS) Group, located at the AbbVie Bioresearch Center in Worcester, MA, is seeking a motivated scientist to join its Gene, Cell, and Protein Engineering (GCPE) team. Our department designs and generates a diverse array of purified protein reagents and engineered cell lines to enable discovery campaigns across the organization. Because our department plays a central role within the vast and interconnected ecosystem at AbbVie, team members have the unique opportunity to collaborate with many therapeutic areas (immunology, oncology, neurology, virology) at one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world. The ideal candidate will have strong molecular biology skills and experience in plasmid design, cell engineering. Candidate will work in a fast-paced environment to investigate, develop, and optimize methods and technologies through hands-on laboratory work and literature review.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Work with a multi-disciplinary project team and use cellular and molecular biology tools to design and develop cell line for antibody discovery and assay development
Over express the target proteins in a suitable host and screen the expression by flow cytometry
Review literature and patents to extract information and apply it to cell line development
Take the initiative to develop and implement new technologies/methodologies to automate high throughput single cell cloning
Communicate research progress and activities through oral and written presentations
Keep accurate and current records of research and/or experiments
Understand and adhere to corporate standards regarding code of conduct, safety, appropriate handling of materials
B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular/Cell Biology, or equivalent discipline with 5-7+ years of experience; or MS in equivalent field with 2-5+ years of experience
Strong background in molecular biology including cell culture, transfection, and flow cytometry
Proficiency in the use of biological databases and on-line resources/tools
Excellent communication skills
