The University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, founded in 1946, is dedicated to training future veterinarians, providing services to animal owners and veterinarians, and conducting investigations to improve the health of animals as well as people. Position Summary

Position will be responsible for processing research samples including viral load determination, cell preparation, assisting in tissue preparation and staining, and molecular characterization of histopathology, and flow cytometric analyses. This person will assist in design, execution, analysis and interpretation of complex research experiments in association with the principal investigator and prepare the results for presentation. This position requires management laboratory inventory and orders, preparation of laboratory research standard operating protocols and collaboration with other lab members in performing research projects.

This position is grant-funded for up to three years.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

Good analytical skills, attention to detail and strong verbal and written communication skills. Self-motivating and willing to work independently within a team environment. Laboratory research experience.

Physical Demands

Lift and carry up to 25 pounds, both assisted and unassisted.
Communicate effectively via telephone, email, and in person to varied stakeholders.

Independently design, execute, analyze and interpret complex research experiments in association with PI and prepare results for presentations, research grants, proposals and papers.

Tissue culture and maintenance of cell lines. Responsible for ensuring proper record keeping, sterility, maintenance, storage and safety of culture work.

Responsible for the day to day management of laboratory, monitor equipment and repair maintain stocks of research supplies, cell lines, and stocks. monitor lab budget. Maintain a complete and detailed record of all experiments. Analyze data. Maintain cell lines strains and plasmid stocks.

This position is also responsible for contacting vendors for quotes for the Norris lab, submitting orders for the Norris lab in UGAmart, receipting orders, and all others matters related to purchasing in the Norris lab.
