The Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking to fill a Wildlife Biologist vacancy in the Augusta Headquarters.

BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION: The Climate Change Coordinator manages the agencys efforts to plan for and adapt to the impacts of climate change on Maines fisheries, wildlife, and their habitats. These efforts include providing technical assistance to inform alternative energy development, integrating climate resiliency and species vulnerabilities into strategic conservation plans for fisheries and wildlife habitat, and incorporating fisheries and wildlife considerations into policy-level discussions regarding renewable energy siting, approaches to carbon sequestration, habitat restoration, land use policy and acquisition of conservation lands.

The need for this position was identified as a priority in Maines Climate Action Plan: Maine Wont Wait and this Senior Biologist level position will work regularly with the Maine Climate Council as well as collaborate with other IF&W staff, state natural resource agencies, the Governors office, and external conservation partners to address the conservation needs of fish and wildlife in the face of climate change. This work will include landscape planning, technical assistance to state and local governments and private landowners, biological surveys, and data analysis and reporting. The position will represent the agency on numerous state and federal technical, scientific, and stakeholder groups.

Preference will be given to thosethat have strong interpersonal and organizational skills as well as professional experience directly related to climate change science and related stressors to natural resources (specifically plant and animal habitats) and communicating scientific information to non-technical audiences.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A Bachelors Degree in Biology, Fisheries or Wildlife Management, or related field -AND- two (2) years of progressively responsible related laboratory or field research and/or management experience. Equivalent experience may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Specific duties (include, but are not limited to:

Serve as the point of contact on behalf of the Bureau of Resource Management in the coordination, collaboration, and response to climate threats with a focus on fish and wildlife.

Plan, coordinate, and implement statewide planning to manage existing and new threats to Maine species and habitats.

Coordinate the development of outreach to create public awareness and encourage responsible actions by the public.

Prioritize and develop strategies to adapt to emerging threats and stressors.

Coordinate with state and federal agencies, including the Governors Office of Policy, Innovation, and the Future to efficiently utilize and share available resources.

Chair and facilitate committee meetings and stakeholder work groups.
