What You Will Do

Are you looking for opportunities to grow your vegetation modeling skills while answering pressing questions about how climate extremes will impact on crop yields? The Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) has immediate openings for one postdoctoral research associates with experience in crop or vegetation modeling. You will work as part of an interdisciplinary modeling and observational team to assess the impact of climate change on crop production. You will contribute to collaborative projects with a focus on shared outcomes, publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present your work at professional conferences. The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Ph.D. in a STEM field
  • Record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals
  • Communication skills as evidenced by publications and oral presentations at conferences
  • Ability to obtain a DOE Q clearance, which typically requires U.S. citizenship

Education/Experience: Candidates must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years in a STEM field, or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Research experience in crop science, biology, or earth and environmental sciences
  • Experience programming in either Python, R, Fortran, Matlab, or a similar language
  • Experience with high performance computing

Location: This position will be located in Los Alamos, NM.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
