Job Description

About the role:

The Research Associate Scientist of Core Biology, based in San Diego, will contribute to target identification and validation (TIDVAL) efforts, employs cutting edge technologies in the areas of molecular genetics and functional genomics and supports formal drug discovery campaigns by Takeda Research. The Associate Scientist designs methodologies and conducts experiments in functional genomics, cell biology and molecular biology and may also coordinate external contract research organization (CRO) studies.

How you will contribute:

ACCOUNTABILITIES
  • Develops cell assays and conducts CRISPR screens and compound screens using manual and automated methods.
  • Perform cell culture assays using biochemical and imaging readouts to meet project team requirements.
  • Conducts FACS, ddPCR, qPCR and RT-PCR, ELISA, Western blot, Incucyte-cell viability assays
  • Collect, analyze and interpret data in appropriate scientific context.
  • Carefully document results in databases and in written and oral scientific reports.
  • Proactively builds external relationships and collaborations that supplement the groups internal capabilities
  • Supports an overall group culture that is agile, proactive, collaborative, innovative, and external facing.


DIMENSIONS AND ASPECTS
  • Experience with cell culture techniques including cell lines, transfections, lentivirus transduction.
  • Hands-on molecular and pharmacological experience utilizing cutting edge techniques: molecular biology, recombinant expression, and gene expression, PCR, EGFP fluorescence analysis, IHC, tissue isolation, homogenization, lysate prep, immunoprecipitation, and RNA purification.
  • Strong interpersonal, collaboration skills to work in a team-oriented, fast-paced, matrix environment, and the ability to work through conflicts
  • Highly motivated and flexible with a positive can-do attitude
  • Ability to provide novel creative solutions to challenging problems
  • Desire to learn and tackle new challenges and initiatives


Minimum Requirements/Qualifications:
  • MS in a scientific discipline (or equivalent) with 3+ years relevant industry experience. or
  • BS in a scientific discipline with 5+ years experience, or
  • Associates degree in scientific discipline with 7+ years relevant industry experience
