Job Description Summary: The Scientist , Biology is responsible for planning and performing scientific experiments that contribute to PTC's research and drug discovery activities. The Scientist is also responsible for communicating experimental results to his/her supervisor and the project team. The incumbent works cross-functionally with internal departments, and external resources as appropriate, as part of PTC's discovery science project teams. S/he also supports adherence to relevant regulatory requirements and company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as appropriate. Job Description: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Primary duties/responsibilities: * With guidance from the advisor plans, initiates, directs, and executes scientific research and experiments and interprets and communicates results as part of multi-disciplinary team(s). This includes performing analyses of primary research literature. * Presents findings internally to cross-functional teams. * Maintains a detailed laboratory notebook. * Interviews and contributes to the evaluation of candidates. * May provide scientific advice to research leadership on projects and areas of expertise. * May Participate in the development and writing of patent applications. * Abides by all safety and regulatory requirements and guidelines. * Performs other tasks as assigned. * Contributes to general lab needs such as: * Equipment maintenance * Capital equipment purchases * Troubleshoot KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES REQUIRED * Minimum level of education and years of relevant work experience. * Ph.D. in scientific discipline preferably in Molecular Biology or Biochemistry with 1-2 years' post-doctoral or Industry experience. * Special knowledge or skills needed and/or licenses or certificates required. * Hands on experience with mammalian cell culture. * Hands on experience with nucleic acid isolation and quantification, as well as protein quantification and analysis methods (e.g., RT-qPCR, Western blot, ELISA, MSD). * Hands on experience and strong knowledge of CRISPR genome editing technology. * At least one first-author paper published or accepted for publication. * Ability to work collaboratively under direct supervision, in a fast-paced, matrixed, team environment. * Excellent planning, organization, and time management skills. * Demonstrate ability to work on complex problems to produce experimental data across one or more projects. * Exercises independent judgement within defined procedures and practices. * Possesses detailed and expert knowledge of scientific principles and concepts. * Demonstrate ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment. * Proficiency with Microsoft Office preferably MS Excel and MS PowerPoint or similar * Excellent verbal and written communication and skills. * Analytical thinker with excellent problem-solving skills. * Demonstrates an understanding of the strategic alignment of his/her work with corporate goal(s) and demonstrates the ability to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines. * Special knowledge or skills and/or licenses or certificates preferred. * Experience in characterizing on- and off-target of in-vitro or in-vivo genome editing using CRISPR technology. * Experience in gene therapy and AAV biology (AAV vector design, production, QC, transduction, etc). * Experience in working with iPSC. * Knowledge of neuroscience, neurological or neuromuscular disorders, nucleotide-repeat disorders (NRDs), eg. C9-ALS, HD, FA, FXS, SCAs etc. * Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of RNA biogenesis, regulation, and turnover and its role in eukaryotic gene expression (e.g., pre-mRNA splicing, miRNA, NMD, etc.). * Experience in tissue processing and familiarity with animal studies. * Travel requirements Up to 10% * Physical requirements (only note if the job requires physical capacity beyond general office work) Office/Laboratory based position At PTC Therapeutics we are seeking candidates in the United States who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or who will be fully vaccinated by the time they begin the position.
