The Environmental Scientist I responsibilities encompass supporting and contributing to a successful Environmental. Services Division through execution of compliance, natural resource, and geoscience tasks under the supervision or guidance of a project manager/technical expert.
Responsibilities include performance of field activities including, but not limited to, natural resource desktop and field investigations, environmental planning studies, stormwater inspections, and hazardous materials investigations. Environmental Scientist I responsibilities also include analysis of data and preparation of technical reports.
Employee shall have the following minimum duties and responsibilities:
Conduct field work and data reduction to support environmental projects.
Interpret technical information and assist with preparation of technical reports.
Assist with preparation of registrations, permits and other submittals required by federal, state, or local agencies for our clients.
Perform desktop studies and coordinate with resource agencies to identify project related environmental constraints (TPWD, USFWS, TCEQ, THC and others).
Assists with environmental construction monitoring for various projects.
Coordinate activities of subcontractors on assigned projects.
Participate in Phase I and/or Phase II Environmental Site Assessments.
Participate in geophysical evaluations.
Participate in natural resources and NEPA-related studies.
Conduct storm water inspections.
Participate in regulatory compliance audits.
Participate in public involvement activities.
Interact with clients as necessary.
Frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds to include, but not limited to tools, sample containers and equipment.
Potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment.
Position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs. Work responsibilities may require out of town travel to Raba Kistner offices, client offices and project locations.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Employees shall possess the following minimum qualifications:
Bachelors degree or higher in environmental science/engineering, chemistry, geology, biology or related field.
Practical experience or desire to learn Geographic Information Systems (e.g. ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro) for environmental studies.
Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Publisher), and ability/desire to learn new software systems, as needed, to support technical environmental studies (e.g. mapping and modeling software).
Working knowledge of natural resources (NEPA, wetland and waters of the US delineations) and geosciences (environmental site assessments, environmental due diligence).
Knowledge of and/or capability to learn how to operate geographic data collection (e.g. GPS) and other scientific data collection equipment.
Knowledge of and/or capability to learn field sample collection (air, soil, groundwater, surface water) protocols and processes.
Ability to identify and resolve problems in a timely manner.
Ability to work in a team environment, and with all levels of people within the organization and outside of the company.
Ability to effectively read and interpret information, present numerical data in a resourceful manner and skillfully gather and analyze information.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Possess valid Texas drivers license and meet companys auto insurability requirements.
Ability to work independently on a job site.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training preferred.
Present a professional appearance to best represent the firm.
Must pass a drug test prior to employment and will be subject to post-accident, random, and reasonable cause testing during employment.
Comply with all attendance requirements as noted in most current edition of the Employee Handbook.
