SOLitude offers a wide variety of services including fishery programs, algae and aquatic weed control, mechanical harvesting/hydro-raking, installation/maintenance of fountains and aeration systems, and water quality testing.
Responsibilities
What do our Laboratory Scientists do?

The Laboratory Scientist oversees day to day functions of the lab by performing testing as required in the lab related programs, maintaining lab equipment, calibrations and necessary reagent and equipment inventories to increase lab productivity.

Functions include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Keep lab clean and a safe working environment at all times, while following all safety procedures
  • Execute lab contracts for both lab work and report writing, including BioBase mapping
  • Assist with R&D lab as requested by supervisor
  • Keep field equipment clean, calibrated and fully functional
  • Work independently to troubleshoot errors and challenges in the lab with minimal assistance by management
  • Sample collection in the field as required by management instruction (
  • Prepare presentations for company meetings and be a technical resource for ops and sales teams
  • Travel to industry conferences, training events, and tradeshows may be required periodically

What do you need?
  • Bachelor's degree in biology, fisheries, aquatic ecology, chemistry, environmental science, laboratory sciences or other related field is required.
  • At least 2 years of research or work experience in freshwater ecosystems OR laboratory sciences for surface water/soils, drinking water, waste water, etc. (Lab experience is preferred)
  • Ability to perform routine lab methods with pipettes, probes, discrete analyzer, spectrophotometer, etc. while being on feet for up to 8 hours per day
  • Have or gain quickly field experience with sampling equipment to test surface water quality, sediments, algae, flora, and fauna.
  • Excellent written, oral, analytical and troubleshooting skills
  • At a minimum, moderate level proficiency in software applications such as Google Earth, Microsoft Excel/Google Sheets, Microsoft Word/Google Docs, and Microsoft powerpoint/Google Sheets, and Microsoft Outlook/ Google Gmail, with an emphasis on experience working in spreadsheets
  • For safety reasons, maintain a good ability to swim and be able to pass an annual swim test
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry objects of 40 pounds or more across uneven terrain
  • Ability to perform lab functions while standing for up to four hour intervals with minimal breaks
  • Ability to frequently bend, crouch, push, pull, balance, and climb
  • Ability to walk along steep, uneven terrain and wade through water
  • Ability to perform job functions in > 90 °F weather in full sun with elevated levels of humidity for extended periods of time while wearing personal protective equipment as required by law and company safety program
  • Ability to work safely around wildlife and plants such as alligators, bees, snakes, poison ivy, etc.
  • Must pass pre-employment background screen
  • Must possess a valid driver's license and pass motor vehicle record search
