Basic Purpose :
Looking for a motivated and passionate Senior Scientist to join our dynamic R&D team to support assay development for clinical genetic testing. This individual will lead key components of assay workflow and development for automated, high-throughput platforms that support DNA-seq and RNA-seq products. Senior Scientists' activities may be focused on individual projects that contribute to the overall success of the development team and may include project leadership duties. This individual will work closely with a cross functional group of technical scientists, computational biologists, and software engineers to support product launches across multiple business segments.
Impact :
This position will have a direct impact on the development and growth of DNA & RNA sequencing products and the continued ability to increase scale and throughput of our automated platforms. The Senior Scientist will be a driving force behind DNA & RNA sequencing innovations that inform clinical decision making to improve patient health and outcomes.
Responsibilities :
Works with R&D leadership to help define the strategic vision for DNA & RNA sequencing.
Develops, plans, conducts, and records results from complex experiments within a specific product or technology area.
Reports status of assigned projects through the preparation of detailed reports and documentation that summarize experimental results.
Collaborates with bioinformatics stakeholders to develop NGS analysis pipelines for sequencing platforms.
Evaluates new commercial products and automation for feasibility and applicability in a clinical laboratory setting.
Provides hands-on training and education-focused presentations to laboratory operations staff.
Participates in technical decisions affecting product development issues (identifies problems, investigates alternatives, and recommends solutions).
Works with team members and other business unit personnel (operations, product transfer, project management, and quality departments) to meet department and project objectives.
Delivers timely and innovative solutions to address customer needs in inter-departmental collaborations.
May attend and/or present at technical conferences or seminars.
Maintains knowledge of technological developments that may assist in the completion of an assignment or lead to new products, processes, or procedures.
Qualifications :
MA/MS or PhD in molecular biology, genetics, or related field and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Extensive experience with molecular biology techniques and an understanding of the practices and principles of NGS, specifically high-throughput automated platforms
Experience with CAP and CLIA regulated environments
Experience developing, optimizing, analyzing, and implementing high complexity clinical assays
Ability to work under tight deadlines and changing priorities in a dynamic and collaborative environment
Strong documentation, organization, and critical thinking skills
Familiarity with principles of design control
Familiarity with agile work environment and software tools
Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
