Principal Scientist - Cell Biology (Chemical Biology)

Target discovery is critical to the success of drug discovery. We are therefore seeking an innovative cell biologist to join the Chemical Biology team at the new established Research and Development Division at our Cambridge Research site to join us in our mission to understand novel biology and identify new therapeutic targets.

• Become a leader in a creative and flexible team; Collaborate, manage, and work closely with innovative, multi-disciplinary scientists.
  
• Lead target discovery and validation efforts on project strategy, experimental design, analysis, and interpretation of experiments
  
• Leverage your deep understanding of cellular biology and the pharmacological and genetic manipulation of pathways and proteins to validate novel targets and mechanisms
  
• Execute on chemical biology strategy through collaborations with Oncology, Metabolic Disease, Neuroscience, and Infectious Disease discovery teams
  
• Establish strong relationships within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives
  

Required Qualifications / Education:

• A background in early target discovery and cell-based assay design and optimization to interrogate novel biological phenotypes is required.
  
• Demonstrated track-record of successful project leadership, and the leadership and mentorship of junior colleagues is required
  
• Ph.D. in Biology, Chemical Biology, Pharmacology, or a related subject area with 8 years of post-degree experience in industry, academia, or biotechnology.
  

Preferred Experience and Skills:

• Strong understanding of biological concepts, mechanistic elucidation, and phenotypic workflows coupled with a strategic vision of novel target drug discovery
  
• Experience managing scientists with a track record of achievements leading projects and independently designing and executing experiments
  
• Excellent attention to detail and strong communication (oral and written) skills
  
• Highly self-motivated and capable of prioritizing deliverables among multiple projects
  
• Ability to build strong relationships within highly collaborative, multidisciplinary teams to effectively drive early drug discovery initiatives
  
• Experience in small molecule screening, chemogenomic screening, high content imaging and/or complex cell models and assays
  
• Preference will be given to candidates with a strong cell biology and chemical biology background, novel target validation, genome engineering, automation, and/or pharmacological assay experience.
