Position summary:

Senior level EHSS leader providing expertise and support to the local and regional leadership teams in establishing proactive measures needed to reduce employees and contractors exposure to EHSS risks. The Director of EHSS establishes mechanisms to systematically monitor compliance to existing and new standards and influence business leaders to devise and implement plans for closing gaps. This leader, working with Global EHSS, will develop a Regional EHSS continuous improvement strategy and provide direction and guidance to the departments and/or businesses in the implementation and deployment of same. The overall purpose will be to provide decisive regional leadership in the disciplines of environment, health, safety + sustainability management. The role will be that of Director EHSS-Americas region encompassing the Manufacturing, Supply Chain and Commercial organisations, reporting to Head of Global EHSS.

Key responsibilities:

Develop, implement and direct regional EHS+S programs, including policy, procedures, performance measurement and evaluation. Provide summary reports to corporate and business unit management.

Provide support to region by serving as the EHS+S subject matter expert and assisting internal stakeholders with reporting, inspections, communications and interactions with regulatory agencies.

Promote and facilitate the active exchange of best practices, procedures, lessons learned, and other pertinent EHS+S information across regional sites and with global partners.

Assess current and emerging regional EHS+S issues, company performance and develop appropriate strategies and programs to maintain or enhance company EHS+S performance and minimize EHS+S impacts.

Monitor Regional EHSS activity to ensure regulatory compliance (Nationally/locally) is achieved through the development and implementation of appropriate policies, practices and training. Also assure compliance and continuous improvement to internal EHS+S policies.

Monitor site EHS+S KPI's and assist sites in attaining their Performance Targets.

Establish and direct regional auditing programs to minimize EHS+S risks, ensure sound EHS+S management systems at all business levels and ensure compliance with company and applicable governmental requirements.

Partner with leadership stakeholders in the delivery of an effect EHS+S culture

Direct property protection engineering efforts to provide the highest standards of protection for company owned and leased buildings.

Monitor regional horizon regulatory developments. Advise business units early of regulatory impacts on business operations and assist in developing strategies to achieve compliance.

Direct regional EHS+S reporting, investigations and remediation activities to effectively address EHS+S issues while managing financial impacts. Lead serious accident investigations.

Direct regional EHS+S due diligence activities for acquisition, divestiture, or closure to identify and ensure management of EHS+S risks.

Provide leadership direction to all regional personnel in EHS+S functions.

Provide organizational leadership for US Drug Take Back programs.

Provide organizational leadership for US Conflict Minerals program management.

Oversight of Fleet motor vehicle incident investigations.

Qualifications/experience:

Bachelor's degree in relevant discipline, Master's degree in Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety management preferred

Proven track records in chemistry, environmental management and science, environmental studies, environmental restoration, industrial ecology, etc.

Minimum experience of 10 to 15 years in this field with multiple site responsibilities

Expert knowledge about Environment, Health, Safety and Sustainability in the Pharmaceutical sector and other related laws and regulations such as but not limited to; OSHA, DOT, EPA, Drug Take and Conflict Minerals programs.

Ability for using various scientific rules and methods to solve problems and for auditing

Able to challenge and influence at all levels in an objective and constructive manner

Possesses effective engagement, communication, presentation and facilitation skills

Must be effective in cross-functional working

Experience with ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001, ISO 50001

Knowledge about the chemical compositions, structures, and other important properties of the chemical substances

Ability to work effectively even under pressure

Excellent verbal as well as written communication skills
