Homology Medicines, Inc., is seeking an innovative Neurobiology Scientist to be a member of our Discovery Research CNS team. This key team member will develop novel CNS gene therapies, guide vector designs strategies, IND-enabling studies, identify IP opportunities, contribute to platform discovery research around our proprietary AAVHSC panel and be an integral part of the strategic research plans as it relates to Neurobiology in the Rare Disease space. This Principal/Senior Scientist, Neurobiology is responsible for nonclinical projects, including in vitro and in vivo preclinical studies, will participate in Development teams, contribute to IND/CTA related documentations and meetings, as well as oversee work with cross-functional units internally and external groups (CROs and/or academic collaborators) to progress our broader portfolio. This key team member will have established experience in AAV gene therapy, preferably with IND/CTA contributions. Additionally, the Principal/Senior Scientist, Neurobiology will be familiar with various inherited neurological disorders, associated animal models, and have experience managing projects and research teams. This key role offers the opportunity to actively apply our technology platform to develop novel gene therapies to improve the lives of patients.

• Execute on the development and implementation of a preclinical research plan from discovery to IND/CTA.

• Serve as biology lead on CNS programs.

• Identify opportunities and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to benefit timelines on programs.

• Collaborate with and serve as scientific mentor to Research Associates in guiding their work at the laboratory bench (direct and/or dotted-line reports).

• Develop scientific talent by identifying opportunities within our programs.

• Identify and guide external research collaborators, as needed.

• Assist Senior Director in prioritizing and allocating resources.

• Communicate program updates and research opportunities to a wide range of audiences, including senior management team.

• Assist in securing intellectual property, including detailed descriptions for patent filing and/or proof of concept work, as appropriate.

• PhD with post-doctoral in a relevant scientific discipline, with a minimum of 12 years of experience directly related to neurobiology or to neuroimmunology research, required.

• Demonstrated responsibility for assays development, animal model procurement, and for programs flow schemes and timelines.

• Expertise in neurological disorders (ocular disorders experience is a plus).

• Scientifically rigorous, highly organized, with significant attention to detail.

• Proven track record of leading research programs and establishing strong collaborations.

• Exceptional verbal and written communication, organizational, as well as interpersonal skills are essential.

• Must be a collaborative team leader able to embrace a team-based culture, who is self- motivated to drive the research forward.

• High energy level, focus, and a passion and sense of urgency for developing important new medicines for devastating diseases.
