The Mechanisms of Cancer Resistance Thematic Research Center at BMS is one of the fundamental research and early development engines delivering oncology therapeutics to patients. The scientists at this state-of-the-art research and development site in Cambridge focus on novel tumor intrinsic targets and pathways for tumors that are refractory to current Immuno-Oncology and Oncology therapies, and implement our discovery platforms across all of our therapeutic areas of focus. We are a fully integrated drug discovery through translational and early clinical development organization which exploits state-of-the-art in vitro, in vivo and ex-vivo models of cancer biology to identify and validate targets. We partner closely with colleagues in Translational Medicine, Informatics and Predictive Sciences and Early Clinical Development to generate biomarker and patient enrichment hypotheses to enable efficient decision making in early clinical trials. We are optimally positioned to complement the world-class translational expertise, biology and leading academic research centers in the area.
The Scientist will join the Oncology Early Target Biology group at Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMS) in Cambridge, MA to aide in the advancement of early-stage therapeutic targets. The position will utilize genome engineering, mechanistic biology, cell-based assays, and other cutting-edge technologies to validate tumor intrinsic targets and support the drug discovery pipeline. The qualified candidate is a highly motivated, interactive, and creative individual that possesses the ability to work across a highly matrixed environment and aid the advancement of the next wave of targets into preclinical drug development. The candidate is expected to effectively collaborate with colleagues across discovery oncology including the exploratory pharmacology, drug discovery and translational research groups. The position requires the ability to design, iterate, and lead several key project initiatives and demonstrate critical thinking to challenge self and others. The successful candidate will demonstrate clear and professional verbal and written communication skills and will be capable of communicating their results across multidisciplinary teams.Position Responsibilities
In the role as a Scientist within Early Target Biology , the ideal candidate:
- Applies scientific and technical skills and functional knowledge to conduct experiments / research / studies in assigned area
- May adapt standard methods and techniques by applying breadth of knowledge and prior work experience

- May contribute to initiatives related to continuous improvement or development of new approaches / technologies
- Makes presentations in small, multidisciplinary meetings, logically presenting information to convey clear, key messages
- May represent department or function on program / project team or sub-team
- 5+ years of academic and / or industry experience
- 3+ years of academic and / or industry experience
Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in the Life SciencesPreferred Qualifications:
- Strong scientific and hands-on experience using a wide range of cellular and molecular biology techniques, including tissue culture, flow cytometry, western blotting, Immunoprecipitation, development of reporter assays, MSD, ELISA, use of genetic perturbation techniques (eg shRNA,siRNA CRISPR-mediated genome editing), qRT-PCR, cell proliferation assays, lentivirus generation and transduction
- Experience in forward and reverse genetic screening followed by target validation studies to elucidate mechanistic biology and oncogenic SAR is preferred.
- Proficiency in utilizing software such as Graph Pad, FlowJo, Microsoft office etc. for data analysis and figure generation is required.
- Ability to lead, design, and execute on project initiatives and operates to a high standard. Attention to detail with excellent organizational and record keeping skills is a requirement.
- This position is located in Cambridge, MA. There will be less than 10% travel.
