About the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES): C2ES is an independent, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization working to forge practical solutions to climate change. We are widely recognized as an influential and pragmatic voice on climate issues, a trusted convener, and a credible source of expertise and analysis. We work closely with federal, state, and local policymakers, executives of Fortune 500 businesses, international climate negotiators, and a wide range of other stakeholders to advance strong policy and action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote clean energy, and strengthen resilience to climate impacts. We believe ambitious and effective climate policy is essential to a prosperous, sustainable, and equitable economy.
C2ES seeks a highly qualified candidate to provide administrative and programmatic support to the business engagement and domestic and international policy programs. This position reports to the Vice President of Business Engagement and takes direction from other program leads as needed.
Up to 70%:
Assist in managing relationships and day-to-day operations of C2ES' Business Environmental Leadership Council (BELC), including member inquiries and requests; development of presentations and meeting materials; management of member database; and, other duties as assigned;
Help organize 3 meetings per year, twice monthly policy briefings, several workshops and other events for BELC members by coordinating content with other C2ES Fellows and senior staff;
Help organize C2ES webinars and events;
Track and analyze BELC member climate targets and greenhouse gas emissions reduction efforts;
Work closely with the policy team to coordinate and track businesses' involvement in C2ES outreach to policymakers and any other cross-programmatic corporate engagement;
Help develop program content and organize and prepare speakers for annual Climate Leadership Conference;
Help organize business-focused side-event at annual COP meeting.
Up to 30%:
Lead research efforts and develop programming relevant to Business Council members to enhance cross-sector dialogue and learnings between leading companies on climate(e.g., current effort is focused on enhancing understanding of climate justice and equity among companies);
Assist C2ES staff with providing input to pertinent external corporate climate leadership initiatives, standards, or guidance(e.g., UN Race to Zero, Science-Based Targets initiative);
Conduct research, writing, analysis as needed on policy and/or issues related to corporate climate leadership that are relevant to BELC members. Responsibilities may include developing memos, briefs, presentations, web content and other written materials;
Provide support to C2ES's domestic and international policy programs including: tracking of federal and state policy developments, researching and analyzing policy issues, producing and contributing to policy briefs and others materials, and facilitating outreach to policymakers and stakeholders;
At times, manage intern(s).
Minimum Education and Experience:
Approximately 3 years of work experience related to energy/climate, policy, and/or sustainability OR related to stakeholder engagement with businesses;
Bachelors degree in environmental or energy studies, economics, political science, business, or related field.
Excellent relationship-management skills, including stakeholder outreach and engagement
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent skills in managing logistics and/or planning external-facing virtual and in-person events
Strong research, writing, and basic qualitative and quantitative analytical skills. Strong proficiency in data gathering and data visualization
Interdisciplinary understanding of climate/energy issues (science, technology, economics, business, law and policy)
Broad familiarity with and interest in voluntary corporate climate commitments, including business climate targets and efforts to reduce their GHG emissions, such as corporate GHG accounting and voluntary carbon markets
Strong project management skills
Takes initiative, entrepreneurial
Ability to work collaboratively and independently, and enjoys working as part of a team
Ability to juggle multiple demands
Willingness pitch in at all levels
Some travel may be required
