Wetland Specialist

Kaskaskia Engineering Group, LLC (KEG) is looking for an experienced Wetland Scientist to join our growing and successful Environmental Team. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 5 years of experience working in environmental science, specifically in wetland science. Ideally, this position will be located out of our Evansville, Indiana office, but remote work is a possibility. However, candidates must be physically located in the state of Indiana due to the amount of field work required in the state.

KEG's Environmental Team has amassed an impressive portfolio of projects over our 14 years in business, quickly making them a "household name" in the engineering industry for environmental support. The Team has worked on a wide variety of projects throughout the Midwest, from local roads to large-scale interstate and bridge construction.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree required, preferably in Environmental Science, Botany/Plant Ecology, Zoology, Biology, Soil Science, or other allied natural/physical environmental resources disciplines. An advanced degree (Master of Science) in one of these areas is desirable, but not required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in environmental science/wetland studies.
• Possess plant identification skills and wetland delineation training and/or experience.
• Experience in preparing National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) documents and the ability to translate those skills to prepare state-level environmental compliance documents (modeled after NEPA) primarily for transportation sector projects.
• Experience working on projects with the Indiana Department of Transportation is desirable, but not required.
• Professional experience working with GIS software, such as ESRI ArcGIS.
• The ability to work in and around a variety of landscapes, including ditches, bridge embankments, roadway slopes, and other obstacles.
• Extensive travel is required throughout Indiana and Illinois (may also include Minnesota). Candidates should be able to regularly travel (day and overnight trips) to complete field investigations. Travel amounts will vary depending on workload but will mostly occur during the growing season (March-October).

Responsibilities

This position will work closely with the Environmental Team Leader and Senior Environmental Science staff to lead and/or assist with a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:

• Conducting environmental field investigations, including but not limited to wetland and stream surveys, wetland delineations, on-site stormwater and waterway permit monitoring, tree surveys, threatened & endangered species habitat identification, stream and water quality investigations, ambient noise measurements, preliminary special waste and hazardous materials data collection, historic property photo logs, and other field work, as necessary.
• Performing analyses and preparing the associated technical environmental documents for both natural and man-made environment subject areas, including wetland and stream delineations, noise studies, air quality studies, special and hazardous materials assessments, socioeconomic and land use analyses, environmental justice studies, cumulative impact analyses and other environmental studies.
• Preparing waterway permits and associated materials for Clean Water Act Section 404 and 401 permits, floodway permits, stormwater permits, and other similar waterway permits.
• Performing environmental impact analyses, including but not limited to stream and wetland impact analyses, botanical and forest impact analyses, threatened & endangered species impact analyses, floodplain and water quality impact analyses, and other natural resources analyses.
• Preparing environmental documents for Categorical Exclusions (CEs), Environmental Assessments (EAs), and/or Environmental Impact Statements (EISs), Section 4(f) Statements, Section 7 biological assessments, and other necessary materials and reports.
• Performing environmental mitigation identification, preparing conceptual mitigation studies, and conducting mitigation site investigations during and post-construction.
