The Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) Generalist provides operational support on safety and environmental matters. The position supports development of, and sustaining safety and environmental initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy workplace for employees. In addition, the position drives continuous improvement at multiple sites, works with the business leaders to identify solutions to EHS issues/challenges. The goal is for Ventura Coastal to be inspection ready at all times in the critical areas of safety training, injury and incident reporting, waste water, boiler and air emissions permitting, hazard identification and all analytics with respect to the Ventura Coastal safety scorecard. The position reports to the EHS Manager. The EHS Generalist will be expected to present a professional image when dealing with representatives and officials of local, state and federal regulatory agencies.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Perform job duties in compliance with all state and federal regulations and guidelines, including Cal
  • OSHA and CalEPA. complies with all company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain EHS schedule to include setting up training sessions. Deliver safety trainings & orientation as needed on multiple shifts.
  • Inspect facilities to evaluate operational effectiveness and ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations.
  • Support any requirements pertaining to Air Permits, Wastewater Reporting, Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) and RCRA waste characterizing.
  • Follow all aspects of the site Environmental, Health and Safety Policy as it pertains to normal job duties.
  • Will maintain the following tracking systems and ensure that they are inspection ready both internally and by outside authorized state and federal agencies:
  • Safety Scorecard (Injury/Incident, Hazard ID, Safety Training, Behavior Based Safety, We Got This)
  • Waste Water & Groundwater Reporting (Monthly, Quarterly & Annually)
  • Maintain and update Industry Safe Management Software
  • Will be responsible for the maintenance of all EHS record keeping functions and filing to ensure that files are accurately maintained and available for any internal, regulatory, audits, reviews, etc.,
  • Interface and meet with representatives local, state and federal agencies as needed.

  • Communicate with all necessary departments any EHS driven change management initiatives
  • Will create, revise and maintain Standard Operating Procedures for all EHS Programs
  • Ability to multitask in a fast paced environment
  • Act professionally towards customers, visitors, vendors and co-workers.
  • Monitoring & Ensuring compliance with Environmental Permits; Water, Boilers, Air & workplace safety regulations
  • Coordinate Tipton & Visalia Water Compliance Teams activities -Water Conservation Education and Awareness
  • Understand and influence human behaviors to reduce workplace risks.


Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor degree or 5+ years of Environmental, Health and Safety (EHS) experience is required
  • Able to understand complex regulations and be able to communicate requirements to groups with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  • Experience implementing, training and maintaining company safety programs such as Lock Out, Machine Guarding, Hazard Communication, High Voltage Electrical and Ergonomic Assessments.
  • Knowledge of wastewater/water systems and management & reporting.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint is required.
  • Cal/OSHA and injury reporting knowledge.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Flexible schedule with occasional travel (domestic) is required.
  • Must be organized and have knowledge of regulatory record keeping requirements.
  • OSHA 10/30-Hour General Industry certification is preferred.


Physical Requirements

The ability to meet flexible and changing priorities and the ability to work under pressure is a must. Sitting, standing, and walking. Minimal climbing, lifting or bending.
