Cyteir Therapeutics seeks an enthusiastic and capable Research Associate to join the Platform Biology team to help develop and implement our research portfolio. This Associate Scientist will be a key contributor to our preclinical research efforts to identify novel small-molecule DNA repair inhibitors for the treatment of cancer. The ideal candidate will have experience in cellular and molecular biology techniques and mammalian tissue culture, with a track record of significant contributions to past research efforts. Expertise in the arena of cancer biology is a plus but not required.
Job Responsibilities:
· Validate and execute cell-based assays to identify and characterize drug candidates in our preclinical pipeline of DNA repair-targeting small molecules
· Perform a variety of standard molecular and cellular lab techniques and help implement novel assays to better understand how our drug candidates are impacting cell survival/stress, metabolic, or DNA damage repair pathways
· Maintain mammalian cell lines in tissue culture
· Work collaboratively within our multi-disciplinary team of scientists
· Maintain familiarity with advancements in the field and new lab techniques and technologies
· Maintain accurate, well-organized experimental records (written and ELN)
· Organize and present experimental results at weekly group meetings
Job Qualifications:
· BA/BSc or MSc in biological sciences with 0-2 years of relevant hands-on lab experience
· Experience with aseptic techniques fundamental to mammalian tissue culture required
· Experience with cell biology extraction techniques (protein, nucleic acids) required
· Experience with cell biology techniques preferred (transfection, transduction, microscopy, IF)
· Experience in basic molecular biology methods (PCR, qPCR, restriction digest, cloning) and biochemical methods (immunoblotting, etc) preferred
· Experience with HTS, image analysis, and automation would be appreciated
· Flexible approach to drug discovery problem solving expecting collaboration across groups
· Well organized and able to maintain detailed records of experimental work
· Ability to communicate clearly in an open, timely manner
· The courage to say "I don't know" or "I made an error" and ask for help
· A sense of adventure and excitement - experience a collaborative and dynamic work culture in a small and growing company
· Passionate about challenging health issues and perseverance in problem solving
· Desire to learn and to grow both personally and professionally in advancement of a career in biomedical research and drug discovery
