The Opportunity
Transition Bio seeks a strong scientist to lead drug discovery biology efforts and provide strategic and technical expertise for Transition Bio's research portfolio. You will be an integral part of the research team, working cross functionally to drive drug discovery within Transition Bio. You will be responsible for making decisions and driving the biology efforts to support drug discovery. You will guide the design and execution of assays and mechanistic experiments to support the preclinical evaluation of chemical matter from hit ID to IND nomination, initially focused on oncology targets but expandable to other disease areas in future. To do this, you will lead drug discovery project/s working alongside various other functions within R&D as well as recruit, train, and mentor early career biologists. You will have highly visible opportunities to interface with all levels of our organization to deliver scientific excellence, as we expand our understanding of Biomolecular condensates to develop drugs to benefit patients.

Key Responsibilities:
- Be an integral member of planning and prioritization of research strategy and workflows across our portfolio
- Support drug discovery from Hit ID to IND nomination, be a project lead and work with cross functional teams to create and execute on research strategies for discovery programs to enable clear go-no/go decisions and timelines
- Oversee the development and execution of assays and mechanism of action studies to understand the biological behavior of chemical matter
- Direct, manage, develop, and empower a team of internal and external scientists in biology
- Manage relationships with external CROs
- Communicate and present progress updates to key decision makers including project team, and management team
Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. in Biological sciences, with 7+ years in biotech/ pharmaceutical industry
- Proven track record of experience across multiple stages of drug discovery, from target validation to IND-filing in oncology drug discovery in a matrixed environment
- Strong track record of being a project leader and delivering development candidates and working cross functionally with Chemistry, platform and development teams
- Expertise in design of assays and criteria for evaluating molecules at every stage of drug discovery
- Strong understanding of cancer cell signaling pathways/ rare diseases/ neurodegeneration
- Experience in in vivo pharmacology a plus.
- Ability to successfully participate in a highly creative and enthusiastic start-up environment
