POSITION OVERVIEW

Support the Environmental Engineering Manager with administering policies and programs related to environmental compliance for Ray Operations. Under the direction of the Environmental Manager, the Environmental Engineer will conduct and communicate the results of environmental inspections, tests, analysis, and observations. The environmental engineer must have a strong aptitude for evaluating results of collected data and observations and communicate to the Environmental Department team. The environmental engineer will conduct data analysis, prepare reports, and draft language for compliance reporting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Solid and Hazardous Wastes
    • Site inspection - drum waste, landfills, dumpsters, hazardous waste generation sites
    • Schedule and assist with off-site waste shipments
    • Preparation of EPA or ADEQ reports
    • Investigate and report spills to Environmental Engineering Manager
  • Title V Air Quality Permits
    • Support the Environmental Engineering Manager with compliance with Title V Permits. Conduct inspections and prepare reports required by the regulatory agencies
  • Surface & Ground Water Permits
    • Collect, prepare, and deliver water samples to laboratory according to guidance in AZPDES/APP permits
    • Conduct inspections to ensure functionality of BMPs and BADCT.
    • Maintain access database and prepare tables and graphs to generate reports
    • Draft reports for Environmental Manager
  • Drinking Water
    • Collect samples as directed by Environmental Manager to ensure safe drinking water
Other duties
  • Maintain Environmental Department files and records.
  • Maintain plans: Emergency Response Plan, SPCC, Hazardous Waste Contingency Plan, Pollution Prevention Plan, SWPPP, Hazmat Security Plan.
  • Interface regularly with environmental inspectors, and handle follow up actions from compliance inspections.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Experience with environmental sampling and analysis or monitoring.
  • Familiarity with federal, state, and local environmental laws, administrative regulations, codes and permits.
  • Must be able to manage time effectively and set priorities.
  • Excellent computer skills to include proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong technical writing skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks.
  • Must have valid driver's license.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to effectively present information to management.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Ability to solicit input from other employees.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Knowledge of mining and leaching processes desired.
  • Knowledge of land use regulations and permitting processes desired.
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • A Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, environmental sciences or related field required. Relevant experience may be considered.
  • Bachelor's degree or (2) years of environmental experience required for Engineer I
  • Minimum three (3) years of environmental experience required for Engineer II
  • Minimum three (5) years of environmental experience required for Engineer III
  • EPA Method 9 certification required.
  • Grade 1 or 2 Water Distribution System Operator certification desirable.
  • Forty (40) hour HAZMAT/HAZWOPER certification desirable.
