Scientist, Computational Biology
Location: Cambridge, MA
We are a Cambridge-based VC-backed stealth biotech focused on discovering and developing next generation precision oncology small molecule medicines. We are advancing drug discovery programs based on a platform that combines insights in cancer biology, structural biology, biophysics and chemical biology to identify innovative ways to target cancer genes.
We are seeking an Informatician to join our Data Sciences team. As an integral part of the Data Sciences team, you will help advance next generation precision oncology drug discovery platform and programs. You will create and apply analytical solutions spanning the fields of Early Discovery, Target Identification/Validation, and Translational Medicine. The successful candidate will provide expertise across a broad range of computational and analytical facets to support the key platform and program initiatives focused on cancer genomics and effectively collaborate with a diverse team of scientists.
Responsibilities:
Contribute to the development and implementation of a next generation precision oncology platform based on cancer genomics - data mining of genomic datasets, database development, and visualizations
Oversee the execution and reporting of analyses for high-throughput sequencing-based experiments.
Develop, implement, and maintain bioinformatics tools and pipelines in a cloud environment
Collaborate across the organization to support ongoing research projects by contributing analytical insights, requirements, workflows and effectively communicate complex computational concepts and findings
Support ad hoc statistical design support and analyses for research projects and programs
Exercise standard code and data management practices with proper analytical documentation and study reports
Core Qualifications
Masters +2 years or PhD in computational biology, bioinformatics, bioengineering, computer science or a related field
Hands-on bioinformatics experience in NGS data analysis tools and pipelines (e.g., Nextflow) and best-practices in performing QC, alignment, secondary data analysis, and enrichment analysis
Experience with computational tools and analysis of protein structure models
Proficient with commonly used programming languages for analysis (Python, R, and shell scripting).
Experience with Unix-based systems, source version control (e.g. Git) and cloud computing environments and tools (e.g. AWS, Azure, docker)
Strong analytical skills with statistical data analysis and modeling experience
Shown expertise in genetics, genomics or cancer biology is preferred
Highly collaborative working style and ability to adapt in a fast paced, rapidly developing environment
Ability to work independently with general direction to meet objectives and timelines, adapting to changes and priorities to fulfill our mission
Bonus Qualifications
· Experience in cancer genomic data analysis along with familiarity of public databases (e.g., Ensembl, Hapmap, UCSC), tools (e.g., cBioPortal), and resources (e.g., CCLE, TCGA)
· Drug discovery experience in a matrixed, startup environment
· Experience with data management of heterogeneous, large-scale biological datasets
Interested Candidates should forward a cover letter and CV to careers@nestedtx.com
