About OneThree Biotech:

OneThree Biotech is an AI-driven drug discovery start-up entering a new, exciting phase of growth. Our goal is to enable new biological discovery at scale by leveraging our platform to identify new mechanisms and targets that could give rise to the next generation of first-in-class therapeutics. We've already been recognized for our traction through multiple awards (including Reuters "Most Valuable" award beating out multiple top pharmas), and, more importantly, through a direct impact on patients lives:

We're excited to add an ambitious and passionate person to our team who is excited about our mission and wants to make their own mark on a major, positive shift in drug discovery.

More about us:

Currently developing a single new drug can take over $1B and 15 years, with over 96% of drugs failing along the way. This is why over 70% of all known diseases have no treatments and millions of patients are left with no viable treatment options.

At OneThree Biotech we are changing this using biology-driven AI. Founded after members of our team lost family members to rare cancer, the team at OneThree has spent the last 10+ years researching how we can combine AI with systems biology to stop this from happening to anyone else. We're building a platform to not only predict new potential therapeutics, but also to pinpoint the mechanisms driving efficacy, and we pride ourselves on building a new form of biology-driven AI that values interpretability as much as accuracy. In our new phase of growth we'll grow long-term partnerships with industry leaders and continue the development of our own drug pipeline, currently focussed on Oncology.

About the Role:

The candidate will lead discovery programs from inception to first in human. They will work directly with the CEO, executive team, and scientific advisors to drive cutting-edge research for novel drug discovery programs.

The ideal candidate should have experience leading the drug discovery programs including coordination of target validation, mechanistic biology, in vivo efficacy, toxicology, and PK/PD workflows. The ideal candidate will be responsible for making decisions, but also be comfortable rolling up your sleeves and contributing hands-on with the team. This is a rare opportunity to guide the internal development strategy of a growing company and work on first-in-class assets and exciting new areas of biology.

If working on challenging problems that have a real positive impact excites you, then OneThree is the place for you!

Responsibilities will include:
  • Lead and plan experimental validation activities to develop OneThree's pipeline of novel oncology targets and assets.
  • Create and execute research strategies for drug development, ranging from target selection to IND enabling studies, to provide clear go-no/go decisions and timelines
  • Design assays and experimental protocols (in-vitro to in-vivo) to measure target-disease relevance, target-compound engagement, and better understand underling biological mechanisms of action.
  • Work as the liaison with external CROs for all wet lab validation, specifically focusing on preclinical mechanism of action/pathway studies, toxicology, compound screening, assay development and in vivo model development.
  • Work with OneThree research team to incorporate AI platform predictions into preclinical validation strategies.
  • Work with executive team and key advisors to create strategies around target selection and prioritization, and communicate findings to both technical and non-technical stake holders in the company

Qualifications we're looking for:

Minimum Requirements:
  • PhD in relevant field (pharmacology, cancer biology, etc.) with 5+ years in biotech/pharmaceutical industry
  • Track record of leading projects from target discovery to developmental candidates (particularly in oncology)
  • Experience in pathway/target validation and running experiments to measure target-disease relevance
  • Experience designing, developing, and overseeing cell-based assays and in vivo studies, including selecting appropriate preclinical models (in vitro, ex vivo, and in vivo) to evaluate targets and candidate molecules.
  • Experience designing studies to better understand PK/PD and PD/efficacy relationships.
  • Experience proactively identifying, evaluating, and managing external vendors of research services.

Nice to Have
  • Expertise in small molecule, targeted therapies within oncology
  • Experience designing studies to support biomarker and patient selection strategies
  • Ability to identify and manage relationships with KOLs and external advisors to aid in advancement of programs

  • Comprehensive Healthcare, Dental, and Vision
  • Unlimited PTO (inclusive of 2 company wide weeks off)
  • 401K
  • Remote friendly culture with a stipend to use local co-working spaces

Why should you work here?

Here are a few reasons that stand out:
  • We're developing drugs that will make a hugely positive difference in patients' lives, and we've already seen both technical and business traction.
  • At the same time, the application of artificial intelligence to drug discovery is in its infancy, so there's a massive opportunity to create new innovations and technical refinement.
  • In many ways the work you will perform will be an industry first and likely become an industry standard.
  • We have a positive culture supported by our friendly and capable team members.
