Environmental Specialist FLSA Status: Exempt

Acme Brick Company (a Berkshire Hathaway Company) is an organization of professionals in the manufacturing and building material distribution industry. We manufacture brick and distribute our own brick as well as brick and associated products manufactured by others. We operate in 13 states with a philosophy that we are much more than a brick manufacturer and distributor.

Summary

Assure compliance with all applicable environmental regulation and work to minimize risk and liability. Train and develop associates to improve their knowledge and skills. Seek innovative solutions to minimize the environmental footprint of Acme Brick Company.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
  • Inspect and evaluate the environment, equipment and processes at site locations to ensure compliance with government environmental regulations and industry standards
  • Write, review and implement written programs and policy
  • Assist in air, water and waste permitting including the permit application, regulatory negotiation and implementation of the permit requirements
  • Perform routine reporting and recordkeeping for site locations, where needed
  • Participate in any merger, acquisition or divestiture work to assure compliance and minimize liability
  • Develop and implement training programs for all levels of the organization
  • Prepare and collect environmental sustainability metrics pertinent to the organization

Skills and Experience Required for Success
  • Bachelor's degree in technical field, engineering preferred
  • 5 - 10 years of relevant experience
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MS Office and EMIS systems (JDE experience a plus)
