We are seeking a Small Animal Biologist at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD

This is a long-term contract position which offers:

TASKS/SERVICES. The contractor shall:

1. Assume primary responsibility for mouse-colony care, including genotyping, breeding, and back-crossing.

2. Perform mouse procedures including intravenous tail injection and intraperitoneal injection.

3. Perform mouse oral gavage for drug delivery.

4. Prepare drugs for injection or gavage into mouse models.

5. Prepare modified cells for injection into mouse models.

6. Perform or be willing to learn mouse surgical procedures including renal capsule injection and imaging procedures such as ultrasound imaging.

7. Harvest mouse patient-derived-xenograft (PDX) or genetically-engineered-model (GEM) tissues for viable preservation or direct analysis.

8. Culture and genetically engineer primary and immortalized mouse and human cells.

9. Isolate DNA, RNA, and protein.

10. Perform qPCR and immunoblot analyses.

11. Perform flow cytometry analyses.

12. Studies the basic principles of animal life and the effects of varying environmental factors.

13. Make reagents of common use for the laboratory.

14. Organize the long-term storage of viably preserved PDX and GEM tissues and maintain the lab database of these reagents.

15. Prepare reports and summaries based on results and findings.

16. Collect data in laboratory notebooks and databases; analyze and interpret data.

17. Organize and catalog lab reagents and equipment.

18. Make reagents of common use for the laboratory.

19. Organize the long-term storage of viably preserved PDX and GEM tissues and maintain the lab database of these reagents.

20. Prepare reports and summaries based on results and findings.

21. Collect data in laboratory notebooks and databases; analyze and interpret data.

22. Organize and catalog lab reagents and equipment.

23. Make reagents of common use for the laboratory.

24. Performs immunohistochemistry on animal tissues.

25. Analyzes experimental data.

26. Edits and writes research papers and protocols.

27. Work with staff on submitting requests for the procurement of lab supplies and maintaining common cell lines.

28. Maintain laboratory equipment and care contracts.

29. Operates laboratory machines and instruments; and prepares specimens and equipment for use.

30. Performs sample management and storage.

31. Analyzes, documents and reports on all procedures performed.

32. Work with staff on the preparation of NCI ACUC amendments and renewal forms.

33. Cleans and sterilizes instruments, glassware, and equipment.

35. Perform mouse oral gavage for drug delivery.

36. Prepare drugs for injection or gavage into mouse models.

37. Prepare modified cells for injection into mouse models.

38. Perform mouse procedures including intravenous tail injection and intraperitoneal injection

39. Perform or be willing to learn mouse surgical procedures including renal capsule injection and imaging procedures such as ultrasound imaging.

40. Harvest mouse patient-derived-xenograft (PDX) or genetically-engineered-model (GEM) tissues for viable preservation or direct analysis.

REQUIREMENTS. The contractor must have:

1. BS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, or a relevant discipline

2. Minimum of five (5) years of related experience.

3. In-depth understanding of scientific research, organizational structure and laboratory resources.

4. Knowledge of laboratory safety practices.

5. Strong communications skills, both oral and written.

6. Excellent analytical, organizational and time management skills.
