Scientist or Senior Scientist

Paramount are working with a global leader in the animal health industry based in Ames, Iowa. We are actively looking for new Immunologists at PhD, Post Doc and Senior level to support research for bacterial diseases of animals and solutions including novel treatment and control of bacterial diseases in multiple species. As one of the largest providers of vaccines and therapeutics, this reputable group supports veterinarians, farmers, wildlife as well as pet and horse owners.

We are excited to hear from Immunologists with a variety of backgrounds in one or more of the following Bacterial Patheogenisis, Vaccinology, T-Cell/B-Cell Biology, Adaptive or Innate Immunology. The positions can also offer Computational Biology exposure for around 25% of the time, the other 75% will be supporting wet-lab work in the large on-site labs in Ames.

As a Scientist in this group, you will help build understanding of the host immune responses to microbial insult, immunological disease mechanisms, pathogenesis and virulence mechanisms of bacteria, contributing to the discovery of novel entities to control and prevent bacteria and their diseases in animals.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Initiates, designs, troubleshoots and completes exploratory experiments plus routine, non-routine and difficult procedures
  • Contributes knowledge of science and technology and understanding of research and development process
  • Proposes, evaluates, and implements new technologies, applies basic scientific principles, performs literature searches, attends scientific meetings, and keeps abreast of literature
  • Effectively communicates and defends own work in the context of the company and team goals at meetings
  • Demonstrates a contemporary level of technical proficiency in field, trains technicians and junior level scientists in this field
  • Reports and treats data with a high level of integrity and ethics
  • Participate in cross departmental project teams when assigned
  • Ensure laboratory facility and equipment are well maintained
  • Stay current with policies and SOPs regarding safe operations in the laboratory. Ensure laboratory technicians are well trained and up-to-date with respect to safety and handling of infectious agents
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant corporate, national, and local authority regulations.


Experience Required:

  • PhD from an accredited institution in Immunology or Bacterial Patheogenesis or other related discipline with two (2) years of experience in a related scientific discipline; Or
  • Master's Degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of six (6) years of experience in a related scientific discipline; Or
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution with minimum of ten (10) years of experience in a related field
  • Work experience in Immunology and vaccine or therapeutic development is required
  • Experience in bacteriology, Immunology, bacterial genetics, genomics, biomarkers, molecular techniques, and the ability to translate this knowledge into successful bacterial vaccine and therapeutic candidates and disease control approaches is ideal
  • Experience with bovine immunology preferred
  • Ability to function in multi-disciplinary teams, create written scientific reports and protocols, and strong verbal communication skills
  • Confident to clearly articulate scientific and operational concepts of vaccine research across functions
  • The role requires highly motivated, dependable and well-organized individual who is able to operate with minimal supervision
  • Excellent planning, prioritization, problem solving, and organizational skills
