Texas State Aquarium
Veterinary Technician
On Call Position

The Texas State Aquarium provides high quality, entertaining programming through education, conservation, and wildlife rehabilitation. We strive to provide our guests with an exciting, educational, and memorable experience.
Responsibilities:
* Collect, or assist with collection of, biological samples from husbandry collection and rehabilitation animals.
* Process all samples for evaluation or submission to outside laboratories.
* Enter lab results into medical record software (Tracks).
* Induce, monitor, and recover patients during anesthetic procedures.
* Perform radiography utilizing appropriate radiation safety.
* Assist with the medical treatment of animals residing at the aquarium or the Wildlife Rescue center.
* Calculate drug doses and fill prescriptions.
* Maintain pharmacy inventory and a clean hospital environment.
Job duties will largely be performed indoors but employee may be subjected to outdoor conditions from time to time, including direct sunlight, high environmental temperature and humidity, high winds, and/or precipitation.
Equipment used may include gas anesthesia vaporizer, anesthetic monitoring devices, radiography equipment, laboratory equipment including compound microscope, and desktop computer.
Experience Required
An Associate's or Bachelor's degree in veterinary technology is required; successful applicant must be a licensed/registered veterinary technician or eligible to sit for the VTNE; 2 years of professional experience working with exotic, zoo, or wildlife patients is preferred.
