Job Description

The successful candidate will help oversee day-to-day Environmental compliance activities, to include sampling, inspections, training, and other work as assigned. Successful candidate will work within the environmental department and with other departments in a team setting to help the site monitor, maintain, and develop its environmental programs.

Responsibilities

Conduct weekly, monthly and quarterly inspections, as assigned
Conduct field environmental monitoring activities related to air, water, waste, wildlife, soils, vegetation, meteorology, and archaeology
Collect environmental samples and data for monitoring
Manage waste across site as required (e.g., 90-day storage maintenance)
Work closely with site personnel to ensure compliance to Title V, MOPTC, WPCP, and other permits
Maintain and contribute to improvement of sustainable systems to always ensure compliance within the organization
Prepare for inspections of operations by conducting pre-audits of areas around the mine site
Prepare semi-annual and annual compliance reports, as assigned
Knowledge in environmental risk identification and management, regulatory compliance systems, release reporting, environmental remediation in air, water, reclamation, etc.
Actively participate in internal and external auditing programs and systems
Regularly engage with site operating divisions to educate teams on environmental compliance requirements as well as provide support where needed; demonstrate visible felt leadership
Compile and interpret data gathered from sampling to ensure compliance and evaluate trends
Provide environmental training to on-site employees and contractors
Responsible for periodic, after hours on-call response to environmental incidents, as needed
Job will be approximately 60-70% in the field and the remainder in the office setting

Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or related field required
Experience in Title V air permit compliance, including regulatory agency interactions preferred
Knowledge of the mining industry setting preferred
Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal skills required
In-depth experience with Excel required
Ability to run (or learn to run) support equipment such as forklifts required
Self-starter and ability to work with little or no supervision required
Familiarity with compliance systems preferred
Ability to act in a proactive manner, to anticipate problems, and to solve existing problems within the context of operational requirements and environmental legal constraints required
