TAX TITLE MANAGEMENT

DEPARTMENT OF FORESTRY

POSITION TITLE: Forester II

REPORTS TO: Deputy Director, Department of Forestry

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Performs professional and skilled forestry work in the office and field on a project basis or an assigned set of responsibilities with little or no direct supervision or instruction. Devises own work methods within broad scope of standards and guidelines. Provides direct supervision for forest workers.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES:Oversee the Forestry Department's silviculture program, which includes monitoring plantation health and survival, reforestation, vegetation management, pre-commercial and commercial thinning, animal damage management, site preparation, prescribed burning, and seedling procurement.
Prepare and administer contracts for tree planting, pre-commercial thinning, herbicide application, and others as needed.
Assists with timber sale layout, with particular emphasis on Forest Practices rules as they pertain to riparian and wetland areas, and unstable slopes.
Assist with timber sale harvest compliance & utilization surveys.
Compile land examination data and prepare reports and recommendations for forest management treatments.
Assist with expenditure forecasts for budgeting purposes.
Assist with administering the County's Secondary Forest Products contract.
Interact with personnel from other agencies such as DNR, WDFW, and others as pertains to County lands and activities carried out on them.
Assist with other physically demanding forestry tasks.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:A Bachelor's Degree with major study in Forestry or related field, or an Associate degree in Forest Technology together with a minimum of three years experience as a Forest Technician with a major forest management firm or agency.
A minimum of two years' experience as a Forester I, with proficient working knowledge of silviculture in the Pacific Northwest.
Displays confidence in themselves, but also desires to learn new skills and grow as a professional.
Ability to work efficiently and independently.
Professional communication and writing skills.
Familiar with Microsoft Word, Excel, GIS theory, and experience with GPS.
Must possess a valid Washington State Drivers License.

SALARY RANGE:
Unified Salary Grid, Range 18

WORK HOURS:
As per working Labor Agreement covering all Courthouse employees.
