Overview
The National Aquatic Monitoring Center (aka the "Bug Lab") is hiring a part time lab technician starting as soon as you are able to. The Bug Lab is a joint partnership between Utah State and the Bureau of Land Management that focuses on the bio-monitoring of freshwater resources throughout the Western U.S. using aquatic macro-invertebrates. We are seeking a detail-oriented student who can work 15-20 hours a week. Your work schedule will be extremely flexible once you are trained. Training usually takes about a week or so, depending on your availability.
Responsibilities
Lab techs will be trained on sorting samples collected from streams and identifying aquatic macro-invertebrates down to their order.

This position requires moderate physical activity. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including moderate lifting (up to 20 pounds), walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, and squatting. This position requires nearly continuous sitting, intermittent times of continuous standing, repetitive hand motions, and constant looking into a microscope. Employees may be exposed to unusual elements including extreme temperatures, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.
