Frontier Medicines, located in South San Francisco, CA and Boston, MA, is a precision medicine company that has pioneered a powerful discovery and development platform designed to generate medicines against disease-causing proteins previously considered undruggable. We are deploying our technologies in chemoproteomics, covalent drug discovery, and machine learning to develop a pipeline of groundbreaking medicines against the most important drivers of disease. Frontier has been recognized as a Fierce 15 company and a C&EN Start-Up to Watch. Our lead program targets both the active and inactive forms of KRASG12C, a validated driver in a number of cancers that until recently has been undruggable. Our pipeline embodies our vision of boldly advancing science to defeat disease, starting with cancer.
The Structural Biology group has an exciting opportunity for a Scientist/Senior Scientist with extensive hands-on experience in protein chemistry and crystallography. We are looking for a highly motivated individual who wants to make a lasting impact to patients' lives. The successful candidate will represent the Structural Biology group and work with a diverse team of scientists to advance our small-molecule drug discovery programs. This scientist will be responsible for design, production, and crystallization of proteins and protein-ligand complexes to enable structural studies by X-ray crystallography and/or cryo-EM. This scientist will also play a critical role in the development of Frontier's technology platform including covalent fragment-based lead finding. This scientist will have the opportunity to build and manage a small internal group as well as external CROs. The position will report to the Senior Director of Structural Biology and is located in South San Francisco.
Responsibilities:
Provide leadership to structurally enable a broad range of targets across different therapeutic areas. Establish robust gene-to-structure protocols to support structure-based drug design.
The primary focus is to produce high grade protein samples and achieve crystallization; contribute to the design, expression and purification of recombinant proteins.
Partner with protein chemists, biophysicists, computational chemists, medicinal chemists, and biologists. Regularly present experimental results to project teams and external collaborators.
Improve existing technologies and incorporate new technologies in relevant fields.
Build and manage a small research group.
Manage domestic and international CROs
Requirements
Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biophysics, Biochemistry or other relevant fields with 3+ years of post-Ph.D. experience. Industrial structure-based drug design experience is highly preferred. Applicants holding an M.S. degree must have 7+ years of relevant experience.
Hands-on experience with protein crystallization utilizing robotic and manual methods. Training in diffraction data collection and data processing is a plus.
Solid technical background with protein production methodology, techniques and instrumentation, as demonstrated in peer-reviewed publications.
Broad experience with macromolecular crystallography, strong track-record in optimizing the expression, purification and crystallization of challenging proteins through protein engineering, and ability to propose new approaches and ideas is highly desired.
Experience with cryo-EM is a plus.
Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment, meet deadlines, and prioritize work from multiple projects.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills; productive and collaborative interactions with other members of a multi-site, cross-functional organization.
Legally authorized to work in the U.S.
Benefits
Health Care Plan (Medical, Dental & Vision)
Retirement Plan (401k, IRA)
Life Insurance (Basic, Voluntary & AD&D)
Paid Time Off (Vacation, Sick & Public Holidays)
Family Leave (Maternity, Paternity)
Short Term & Long Term Disability
