Boston Metal is commercializing cutting edge extractive metallurgy technology that will revolutionize primary metals production, while decreasing cost and lowering environmental impact. This fast-paced startup company is looking for an EHS Manager to join our growing team.

This individual will manage and lead the EHS function, working independently as part of a team providing strategic direction, leadership, and technical support to establish and advance EHS programs, policies and procedures with a primary focus on health and safety compliance with all local, state, federal, and environmental regulations.

Responsibilities:

  • Provides leadership and builds partnerships at sites across all levels of the organization to foster EHS culture improvement with strategic action plans, while serving as the general subject matter authority for the EHS operations within the facility, while ensuring seamless implementation of EHS standards, practices, systems and tools
  • Maintain an understanding and knowledge of legal EHS requirements of OSHA/ EPA /DOT regulatory compliance with Federal, State and Local regulations
  • Develops and implements training initiatives and provides guidance to all employees to ensure adherence to company EHS procedures, standard safety practices and emergency procedures
  • Works on cross-functional projects that interface with other groups, external to and within the core EHS team
  • Serve as the official safety officer for research and laboratory safety emergency situations and subject matter expert for routine situations
  • Gathers data to perform cost-benefit analysis, risk assessments, and strategic cost reduction strategies to ensure adequate controls for EHS processes
  • Conduct EHS audits; audit compliance to carrier policies and procedures and regulatory requirements; maintain and improve environmental regulatory compliance initiatives; evaluate effectiveness of EHS programs
  • Proactive in the identification of Health & Safety hazards and the development of controls to mitigate risks including ergonomic improvements
  • Properly manages hazardous waste storage and disposal
  • Works with HR to manage worker's compensation program and return-to-work coordination
  • Works closely with site's facility management services to ensure EHS compliance
  • Provides timely information and guidance to the leadership team, including EHS performance trends, risk metrics, and root cause corrective actions for injuries and near misses
  • Conduct root cause analysis to determine causes of incident/accidents
  • Determination and implementation of environmental sustainability initiatives to minimize water use, greenhouse gas generation, hazardous waste generation and increase recycling rate
  • Design and implement new programs to address unique research and laboratory safety issues
  • Maintains PPE, manages hazardous waste, and other daily critical EHS functions


Required skills and experience:
  • BA/ BS degree in Environmental Safety and Health, Industrial Hygiene or related degree
  • 10+ years' EHS experience, with at least 5+ yrs in a manager/supervisor role.
  • Strong knowledge, understanding and legal compliance with EHS requirements, Health and Safety regulations (OSHA/EPA/DOT), standard concepts, practices and procedures
  • Demonstrated strength in EHS risk assessment, program evaluation, auditing, reporting methods and metrics
  • Strong experience in manufacturing/warehouse and lab research and development setting
  • Ability to develop, implement and lead EHS initiatives, programs and systems while working in diverse environment
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to excel, while working in a fast-paced team-based work environment is critical
  • Ability to communicate effectively with and work with all levels of the organization and external agencies
  • The ideal candidate will also possess strong leadership, project management and analytical skills
  • Problem solver with strong work ethic and decision-making skills
  • Proficient in using MS Office, Outlook


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Ability to lift 30 pounds and use a respirator while on the job.
