Biohabitats is seeking to hire a Restoration Ecologist with experience in planning, assessing, designing, and overseeing the construction of ecological restoration, nature-based design and green infrastructure projects throughout the US Southeast and Gulf coasts. Experience with southeast coastal ecosystems is highly preferred (tidal wetlands, seagrass beds, mangroves, rivers, bottomland hardwood swamps, maritime forests, native grasslands, long-leaf pine forests, etc.).

The candidate will join our Southeast Atlantic Bioregion team with an opportunity to work on a variety of projects throughout the Southeast, with an initial focus on projects in and around South Carolina, Georgia and Florida. The candidate will work with our multidisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, landscape architects and GIS technicians to support biodiversity restoration, climate change adaptation, environmental justice and green infrastructure work for government, private and non-governmental organizations.

We are looking for someone with strong communication, problem-solving and negotiation skills that can work well under pressure. This position requires someone to be able to work both independently as well as in a highly collaborative design environment with engineers, landscape architects and other science-based disciplines. A love for wild nature, the outdoors, and a dedication to Restore the Earth and Inspire Ecological Stewardship is a must.

Role & Responsibilities

Leading and supporting ecological restoration, nature-based design, and green infrastructure projects.

Overseeing all aspects of project delivery including planning, assessments, design, permitting, construction administration and monitoring.

Conducting natural resources and watershed inventories and field assessments.

Managing projects and coordinating project teams.

Travel to project sites throughout the Southeast

Required Skills

Demonstrated academic and professional experience with US coastal plain ecosystems, habitat, flora, and fauna identification, soil characterization and wetland delineation

Client management and project management experience

Proposal and task order development experience.

A proficiency of Office 365 programs (particularly Excel and Word).

Strong technical writing and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Skills

Experience with coastal plain wetland and stream restoration, stormwater management, and habitat restoration.

Experience with mangrove, seagrass, and coral reef restoration

Proficiency in ArcGIS and/or AutoCAD

Experience in community engagement is a plus, along with business development.

Education

M.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, Natural Resources or equivalent

Certification & Training

Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner (or willingness to apply)

Certified Professional Wetland Scientist, Ecologist, and/or Wildlife Biologist (or willingness to apply)

Wetlands and Hydric Soils Training
