Job purpose

This job is ideal for a scientist who wants to build instruments that make a difference in the world by measuring air quality and addressing climate change. They will develop, deploy, and commercialize gas analyzers based on laser spectroscopy.

Duties and responsibilities

• Develop gas analyzers based on laser and cavity-enhanced absorption spectroscopy
• Develop instrument control, data analysis, and data acquisition software in Python
• Test instruments to determine their analytical performance
• Analyze and visualize instrument data
• Field deploy prototype instruments
• Rapidly improvise practical solutions and adapt to changing needs
• Work quickly and effectively in a small, versatile team

Qualifications

• M.S. or Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry, Applied Physics, Physical Chemistry, or similar field
• Experience in building analytical instrumentation from scratch
• Scientific Python programming, including instrument control, data acquisition, analysis, and reporting

Requirements

• Graduated with a degree at time of application
• US Citizen

Preferred Skills

• Python programming for scientific applications
• Laser-based optical spectroscopy (specifically tunable diode laser absorption spectrometry)
• Data visualization and analysis in Python, Origin Pro, and/or IGOR Pro

Working conditions

• Comfortable working in a laboratory
• Willing to travel and deploy instruments
• Small, fast-paced, start-up environment
