TITLE: EHS ENGINEER

FLSA STATUS: EXEMPT

REPORTS TO: SR. MANAGER OF EHS

SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Sr. Manager of EHS, the EHS Engineer is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring environmental, health and safety programs, policies, and procedures, including ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws or regulations for cleanrooms, laboratories, and offices facilities; performing periodic safety inspections, maintaining safety equipment inventory and monitoring compliance; developing, conducting, and updating safety and environmental training for employees; analyzing data; preparing reports, and recommending corrective action if required as well as preparing and submitting monthly, quarterly, and annual environmental, health and safety compliance reports. This position is located in Milpitas, California.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Develops, implements, and monitors environmental, health and safety programs, policies, and procedures for a business unit, department, or facility
  • Complies with current Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) and Cal-OSHA regulations regarding environmental, health, and safety procedures and reporting
  • Generates reports and applicable plans for permits and environmental compliance requirements such as BAAQMD, SWPPP, SPCC, CUPA, POTW self- monitoring, HMBP, permit by rule for on-site waste water treatment
  • Performs regular site safety inspections of the cleanroom (fab), laboratories, offices, chemical storage and waste collection areas
  • Updates labeling and reports based on findings; recommends corrective action if required
  • Maintains safety equipment inventory and allocates appropriate equipment to employees as needed, including personal protective equipment, respirators, fire extinguishers, AED devices, eyewash/safety showers
  • Reviews, updates, and maintains the Illness and Injury Prevention Program (IIPP) and other related procedures
  • Supports and implements mitigation measures to reduce and prevent any disease transmissions, such as COVID-19
  • Documents and maintains ergonomics programs; conducts employee evaluations and recommends appropriate remediation
  • Reviews, updates, and communicates changes or upload modifications to the Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on a periodic basis
  • Acts as the site coordinator for the Emergency Liaison Team (ELT), including coordinating activities, providing training, and conducting evacuation drills
  • Monitors and coordinates chemical inventory, including ordering and disposing of hazardous waste (chemical or medical) per regulations
  • Develops, conducts, updates and monitors various types of environmental and safety training to ensure compliance with current regulations
  • Analyzes safety data or statistics, prepares reports, and presents findings
  • Responds to inquiries from employees, managers, and other departments
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level*


MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's degree Engineering and/or equivalent relevant experience
  • Three years of experience working as an EHS Engineer in the semiconductor or manufacturing industry with a focus in safety and health compliance and reporting
  • Strong knowledge of current environmental, health and safety regulations, and reporting
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Applications


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Strong knowledge of current environmental, health and safety regulations
  • Knowledge of OSHA and Cal-OSHA reporting and compliance requirements
  • Knowledge and ability to maintain and ensure compliance with site-wide PPE and IIPP programs
  • Knowledge of emergency response roles and responsibilities and the ability to carry-out site-specific training or drills
  • Knowledge of hazardous waste disposal regulations
  • Knowledge of environmental and safety management systems such as ISO 14001/45001 or similar
  • Knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office applications to create spreadsheets, Word documents, and presentations
  • Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of contractors, consultants, employees, management, and vendors
  • Able to work productively and collaboratively with all levels of employees and management
  • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures
  • Demonstrated ability to follow complex verbal or written instructions
  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and trouble shooting skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:

The Environmental Health and Safety Engineer works primarily in an office environment. The schedule may be altered from time-to-time to meet business or operational needs; may travel from building-to-building as needed. Works in a class 100 ESD sensitive wafer manufacturing facility; wears a cleanroom (bunny) suit, including hood, gloves, safety glasses, booties, and mask. May be exposed to hazardous conditions, chemicals, fumes, and/or gases during the course of work day; may be exposed to loud noise. Stands and walks, bends, twists, and crawls; wears a respirator in order to adhere to safety requirements. Performs various fine grasping movements; operates a computer and enters information using a keyboard, operates a telephone, and other office equipment; may occasionally push, pull, or lift up to 20 pounds.
