Job Summary:The Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is responsible for 24/7 emergency on call. Will respond to and remediate chemical, chemotherapy drug, and hazardous materials spills. Will investigate and respond to health and safety concerns and coordinate corrective actions. Perform safety inspections to ensure regulatory compliance and assess for hazardous conditions. Recommends remedial action as necessary. Coordinate, develop and present safety training programs. Maintain training records. Monitor and track attendance. Prepare required regulatory and compliance reports related to internal and external audits (DNV, PESH, NYSDEC, etc.) Develop and implement environmental health and safety awareness program. Coordinate the hazardous waste disposal program including required document preparation and maintenance of records. Participate on committees to proactively promote safety. Perform risk assessments and recommend engineering controls, administrative controls and personal protective equipment. Review and revise policies, procedures and safety manuals. Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Chemistry, Biology or related field and two years professional experience in Environmental Health and Safety, hazardous waste and/or industrial hygiene required. Excellent written and oral communication skills required.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in adult education/employee training preferred. Knowledge and experience with DEC, DNVGL, EPA and OSHA regulations preferred. Computer-based records management experience preferred.

Work Days:

Mon-Fri 7:30am - 4:00pm, on call/recall and flexible hours based on departmental needs.
