We seek a talented scientist to combine multi-modal data (genetics, omics, imaging, EHR) to enable the development of new therapeutics in partnership with the Immunology, Cardiovascular, and Fibrosis Thematic Research Center (ICF TRC). In this role, the successful candidate will design and apply computational pipelines to nominate novel drug targets, and guide pre-clinical drug development decisions. A key focus of this role will be to design and execute integrative analyses of large biobank-scale genetic data with complimentary multi-modal omics data to predict disease risk and/or characterize disease subtypes.
The successful candidate will be an important member of ICF Predictive Sciences in the globally distributed Informatics & Predictive Sciences (IPS) department. This department is involved in collaborative bioinformatics, computational biology, and patient selection research alongside colleagues in the Research & Early Development (R/ED) organization.
The position offers an exciting opportunity to make a difference in lives of patients, gain industry experience, and interact with the broader scientific community through multi-partner collaborations (e.g. Open Targets, FinnGen, UK Biobank). The successful candidate will also be encouraged to publish their work and to present at external meetings and conferences.Responsibilities
- Design and perform analyses to infer causal mechanisms driving cardiovascular and fibrotic diseases integrating multi-modal data (genetics, omics, imaging, EHR)
- Provide data-driven input on experimental design for target identification and validation efforts (e.g. patient population, relevant cell types, assay read-outs, and/or appropriate genetic perturbations).
- Connect therapeutic hypotheses to specific patient populations (e.g. using polygenic risk scores)
- Work with internal and external partners (in academia and industry) to collect functional data and develop integrative methods to empower future discovery efforts in ICF.
- Participate in and oversight of scientific report writing. Presentation of methods, results and conclusions to a publishable standard.
- Communicate findings in multiple settings (including 1:1, seminars, group, and project meetings)
- A Ph.D. in genomics, genetics, bioinformatics, or a related field and 2 + years relevant experience preferred
- Proficiency with at least one high-level programming language (R, Python, C/C++) for complex data analysis and reproducible research practices
- Expertise in statistical genetics, especially experience with GWAS/QTL integration, Mendelian randomization, polygenic risk scores
- Demonstrated ability of contributing to and helping advance multi-disciplinary team projects
- Strong communication, data presentation, and visualization skills
- Track record of excellent interpersonal and communication skills, including ability to provide concise summaries of complex data to empower decision making.
- Background knowledge in cardiovascular diseases (heart failure, and fibrosis) preferable
